Thecompressedairisusedforobtainingbrakeapplication.Thebrakepipe
andfeedpiperunthroughoutthelengthofthecoach.Brakepipeandfeed
pipeonconsecutivecoachesinthetrainarecoupledtooneanotherby
meansofrespectivehosecouplingstoformacontinuousairpassagefrom
thelocomotivetotherearendofthetrain.Thecompressedairissupplied
tothebrakepipeandfeedpipefromthelocomotive.Themagnitudeof
brakingforceincreasesinstepswiththecorrespondingreductioninbrake
pipepressureandviceversa.

Thevacuumbrakesystemderivesitsbrakeforcefromthe
atmosphericpressureactingonthelowersideofthepiston
inthevacuumbrakecylinderwhileavacuumismaintained
abovethepiston.Thetrainpiperunsthroughoutthelength
ofthecoachandconnectedwithconsecutivecoachesby
hosecoupling.Thevacuumiscreatedinthetrainpipeand
thevacuumcylinderbytheejectororexhaustermounted
onthelocomotive.

brakecylinderisventedprogressivelydependingupontheincreaseinthebrakepipepressure.Whenthe
brakepipepressurereaches4.8kg/cm2thebrakecylinderiscompletelyexhaustedandbrakesarefully
released.
