Anna University (AU) was established on 4th

September 1978 as a unitary type of University to promote

teaching and research in the field of Engineering,
Technology, Architecture and Applied Sciences. True to its
image as a premier technical institution in the country, AU
constantly strives for excellence in education, research and
societal service through highly dedicated and competent
faculty members who are also expert researchers in
various emerging and cutting edge technologies.
Department of Aerospace Engineering was
instituted in MIT Campus in the year 1949 as a forerunner
in the whole country in furthering the cause of Aerospace
Research in the new born nation. Till date, the department
has been leading the way in propelling indigenous
research in Aerospace materials.
Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of
the oldest departments of CEG, established in 1884. With
the close ties to industries, it has excellent academic and
research practices in the area of materials and processes.
Crystal Growth Centre is an internationally
acclaimed centre of excellence in the field of crystal
growth research and technology since 1982. The centre is
also a UGC national facility. It has grown several crystals
covering a broad range of characteristics and thereby
providing a platform to discuss the latest developments in
the field of crystal growth research and new materials.
Established in the year 2005, the Centre for
Nano Science and Technology has been actively pursuing
research in various aspects of Nanoscience and
Technology including chemical, mechanical and biosynthesis
of
nonomaterials
like
semiconductor
nanostructures, nanocrystalline thin films, carbon
nanotubes and nanofibres.

Scope of the programme:

Important dates:

The knowledge of materials characteristics,

allows the designer not only to make the best material
selection as a function of its application in a given product,
but also to overcome constraints in a design path where
materials and transformation technologies become
variables of the creation process. Nowadays the
knowledge of materials properties is essential more than
ever. In order to produce an awareness in design
methodology and exploit the materials in a most
appropriate way, a thorough characterization of materials
is very much essential. In the short term course due
coverage is given for material development,
characterization, testing and application of materials.
Composite materials, compound semi conductors and
solar cells will be discussed in the short term course.

Last day for receipt of registration form: 06/10/2015

Due coverage will be given on Oxides and non-linear

materials, Advanced semiconductor thin films, Ultra
fine grain/Bulk nanostructured materials, Superhard
Coating/Engineering Ceramics /Texture analysis/
Energy
Storage
Materials,
Spectroscopic
Characterization of Materials, Thermoelectric
Materials for Waste Heat Recovery and Biomedical
Applications of Nano particles.
