African Rural University (ARU) is an all women University licenced by National
Council for Higher Education in 2011 Licence No. UI PL 017. ARU is the first
specialized university offering a Bachelor of Science in Technologies for Rural
Transformation. It natures young women to develop spiritual intelligence, emotional
intelligence and master principles of the visionary approach, systems thinking and
sustainable development. Graduates live and work as change makers and agents of
rural transformation.
Founded by Uganda Rural Development and Training Programme (URDT), ARU is
focused on providing women with the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to be
effective Rural Transformation Specialists and entrepreneurs.
ARU Mission
The African Rural University for women provides transformational education to create
effective change agents within an African development context. ARU applies theoretical
learning, innovative instruction, and field practice, in order to produce graduates
capable of creating conditions for people to improve their lives, transform their
communities, awaken inherent leadership and increase their capacity for selfgenerating and sustainable change.
Located in Kagadi Town Council, Kibaale District, African Rural seeks to fill the following
vacancies on performance based contract, with self-motivated individuals that have
understanding of socio-cultural anthropology, have self-management, are visionary,
committed have personal mastery and are creative.
Position title: Vice Chancellor
Reports to the Chairman Council
Contract duration: Performance based, 4 years

Key responsibilities
In the absence of the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor shall preside over
ceremonial assemblies of the University and confer degrees and other academic
titles and distinctions of the University.
Provide advice and guidance on all matters concerning the University to the
University Council.
Make an annual comprehensive report on the state of the University to the ARU
Council and National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
Be the Chief Public relations and resource mobilization Officer of the University

Responsibilities:
Coordination and organization of academic matters including application
processes, admission,
oversight of quality of curriculum delivery lectures,
integration of Traditional Wisdom Specialists engagement in teaching, learning
and research, Examinations management
Oversight of research and professional development of academic staff
Secretary to Senate and coordinate Senate Committees
Handle any other responsibilities as may be assigned by council or Vice
Chancellor.

Qualifications
Have a PhD
Minimum of 5 years in administration and management in higher education institutions
Demonstrated scholarship
Has a minimum of three publications
