We are pleased to update the IISES bulletin dated March 23, 2011 in light of the recently announced full service
smoking room brand standards for 2012. IISES is an approved and recommended HSM supplier with a long
standing relationship with Hilton Worldwide. The IISES Air Purification Technology has been proven effective in
eliminating smoke and malodors in guest rooms & common areas from initial testing with Hilton in 2004, through
over 7 years of use at hundreds of Hilton Branded Hotels. The IISES Guest Room Units have led to improved
SALT scores by continuously treating smoking rooms and rooms with persistent malodors 24/7, as has the use of
the IISES Rapid Room Recovery Unit in eliminating one-time odors in guest rooms & common areas (e.g. smoke
in non-smoking room). IISES has the proven ability to provide properties with equipment, expertise, and the most
cost effective platform for the continuous treatment of smoking rooms and smoking hallways, converting smoking
rooms into available non-smoking inventory, and overall odor remediation for common and public areas
throughout the Hotel.

Converting Smoking Guest Rooms to Non-Smoking Guest Rooms

The IISES Advanced Oxidation Cell (AOC) Technology has demonstrated to be highly
effective at eliminating odor associated with environmental tobacco smoke. The use of this
technology will provide you with a means to treat the air and eliminate smoke odor from
rooms and areas being converted from smoking to non-smoking. The following describe the
procedures for its use:
Equipment Needs
-

Rapid Room Recovery Unit (RRR-AOC-16)

o Minimum of 1 for every 500 guest rooms
Guest Room Portable Plug-In Unit (AOCPPI-16)
o Minimum 1; actual total will depend on number of rooms being converted and
timeline to convert all the rooms

Suggested Protocol:

STEP 1: Rapid Eradication of Smoke Load/Odor

Equipment: RRR-AOC-16
1. Centrally locate the Unit in the Guest Room (safely position on
sturdy flat surface or floor)

2. Turn the Guest Room A/C on (Optional: assists in air flow)

3. Turn the Unit on and run for approximately six hours (longer for
for heavy smoke load; shorter for light smoke load)*
4. Turn Unit off; unplug; remove the Unit from the Guest Room
5. Proceed to Step 2

STEP 2: Equilibrate Room Achieving Smoke-Free Environment

(eliminates smoke from off-gassing materials/soft goods)

1. Plug the Portable Plug-In APS into a wall outlet
2. Turn the Guest Room A/C on (Optional: assists in air flow)
3. Utilize switch on Portable Plug-In APS to operate at High setting
(Advanced Oxidation Cell and Internal Fan) and run for
approximately one to three days (longer for heavy smoke load;
shorter for light smoke load) *
4. Turn Unit off; unplug; remove the Unit from the Guest Room
*Operational conditions/variables will effect treatment time including but not limited to: the
square/cubic footage of the room; the amount of smoke load or odor; the contents of the
room; the structure of the room (i.e. single room vs. suite)

This procedure can also be used in corridors accessing smoking rooms and public areas
where smoking has been permitted.

SMOKING GUEST ROOMS
The IISES Advanced Oxidation Cell (AOC) Technology has been demonstrated to be highly
effective at eliminating odor associated with environmental tobacco smoke in smoking Guest
Rooms and Hallways. Using this technology provides Hilton Branded Full Service Hotels a
means to treat the air on a continuous basis, and comply with the smoking room brand
standards for 2012. Treating the Guest Rooms 24 hours a day, 7 days a week will prevent build
up of smoke in absorptive materials, such as drapes, sheers, soft goods and carpeting,
eliminating off gassing. Smoke odor will be eliminated between Guest A checking out (smoker)
and Guest B checking in (smoker or non-smoker), adding to the flexibility of your rooms inventory.

PROTOCOL: TREATMENT OF SMOKING GUEST ROOMS

1. Install one (1) AOCPPI-16 in guest room. (Reference Installation Guideline Document
for installation options related to securing the Unit to the wall.)
2. The Unit can be mounted in any orientation (dependent on the wall plug) as long as the
bottom vent and side vents are not obstructed in any way as to restrict air flow.
3. Actuate switch on Portable Plug-In APS to the ll setting turning on both the Advanced
Oxidation Cell and internal fan for 24/7 treatment of the room.
4. Have Housekeeping check daily to make sure the switch is in the ll position when they
come in to service the room.
5. Discontinue the use of any odor elimination chemicals or fragrances in the room.
