Average male penis size and erect penis size classifications

Penis size is important to many men. The question of does penis size matter to the opposite sex or for
the enjoyment of sex is not addressed here. Suffice it to say that for some women penis size is important
and for others not.
The average male penis size can be measured in a variety of ways but the most important are:
1. Flaccid length (measured along the top of penis from tip to base)
2. Erect length
3. Erect girth (most easily measured around the largest circumference)
Most of the available literature concentrates on the second two measurements. This is because flaccid
penis length is difficult to measure consistently (e.g. it varies a lot during the day) and is less important for
sex.
The length of the average flaccid penis varies between 9 and 10cm. However, it can be much smaller
than and as long as 16cm or more. There is a low degree of correlation between the flaccid and erect
lengths but better correlation between the stretched flaccid length and erect length. It would seem that
locker room envy is not completely founded on facts!
There are two particularly important studies on average erect penis size. One of them was undertaken
by the Lifestyle Condom Company and the other by Kinsey and Associates (a study that is over 50 years
old now). After reviewing this data the following penis length classifications can be proposed:
1. Very small - less than 11cm.
2. Small - 11 to 14cm.
3. Average - 14 to 17cm (some studies suggest a smaller range of 12.9 to 15cm).
4. Long - 17 to 20cm.
5. Very long – more than 20cm.
And with respect to penis girth (using broad categories):
1. Thinner - less than 12cm.
2. Average - 12 to 14cm.
3. Thicker - more than 14cm.
