Please type your answers to the following question in the space provided or as a
separate attachment.
1. What is your motivation for applying for the RA position? How does this position
fit within your future plans?
My motivation for applying for the RA position is that I want not only to share my
success from my struggles as an undergraduate but also to help gain new
perspectives as a leader. Being an RA can help me to develop stronger
communication skills and learn to handle different situations since I want to be a PA
(Physician Assistant) who is able to work and communicate with others with various
of needs.
2. What can a RA do to make students feel welcome and build a strong community?
A RA can make students feel welcome by having an open and understanding
relationship with each of his/her students by being available or set up a time to their
residents so that the resident can feel ease and welcome when someone is willing
to listen to their problems. In addition, Utilizing programs that could motivate and
provide helpful advice give residents the confidence they need during their
adjustment to college life, which can be difficult and stressful for some students.
3. RAs are required to implement programs. Describe a program or event in detail
that you could implement to bring residents together that may also be educational.
I want to design a program that addresses some of the struggles that college
students face, such as, stress, lack of motivation, homesickness and emotional or
academic difficulties. I want each of my resident to make a group that represents
the issue and using the group to help each resident become more familiar with
his/her resident by hearing and sharing some of the struggles can help alleviate
some of the potential stress they may have. I wanted to let some of my residents
know some of the resources that are offered by University to help alleviate some of
these struggles.
4. A major part of the RA position is being a role model to residents. Please give an
example of a person you identify as a role model and the qualities they possess.
How might you utilize your strengths to be an outstanding role model in your
community?
My father was a great role model because of his altruistic personality and his
leadership skills as a owner of a farming company, he is able to make decisions that
help to support his employed workers with equal treatment and tries to alleviate
some of the stress they develop from their work environment. With my open and
altruistic personality and being a listener, I am committed to finding ways that
adapts to people of various of needs and with my experience of mediating between
extreme situation I am able to resolve some of the situations without damaging the
mood.
5. As a RA you are asked to work on a team. What kinds of roles do you play on a
team and how might you help that team be successful?

I play the role of a team-worker and implementer since I like to hear everyones
option before contributing my ideas that could help the team be successful and to
help resolve conflicts during discussion of different ideas.

6. Please list the communities you have lived in and the length of your stay. Please
include both on and off campus examples. (For example: Middle Earth for 9
months, Stanford Court for 1 year)
- Mesa Court (Laguna): 9 months
-Vista Del Campo: 1 year
-Vista Del Campo Norte: 1 month (summer session II)

8. If interested in multiple housing communities please list your order of preference

and explain.
-Campus Village- I wish to be a RA for Campus Village because with a smaller
community, it helps me to create close relationship with residents and with access
to different resources can help me to design programs that help the residents
needs.
-Middle Earth- I wish to be a RA for Middle Earth because I previously lived in Mesa
Court during my first year, and I want to recreate the community and the bond I
developed from living in Mesa Court.

9. If interested in a specific house/hall/theme within a housing community, please

explain your preference. Why does this specific house/hall/theme spark your
interest?
General Interest Halls (Middle Earth) sparks my interest because with my future
career I want to learn to communicate with people of different backgrounds who
should feel welcome. The General Interest Hall allows me to have different options
and opportunities to help residents in some aspect such as academic struggles or
emotional distress.
10. How do you define Diversity and how has it impacted you personally?

I would define Diversity as ones understanding of differences that recognizes that

everyone is not the same and needs to learn to accept and respect other peoples
differences. Diversity has affected me because I came from a town where the
residents were pre-dominantly Caucasian and coming to UCI made me realized how
the student population accepted people of all different backgrounds and learned to
interact with people without discriminating based on race.
