The most misinterpreted of the Godhead is the Holy Spirit.
Some Christians today sees the Holy Spirit as an influence, some see the Holy Spirit as a force while some still see the Holy Spirit as a feeling. Not forgetting many that see the Holy Spirit as a white dove. But the fact is that the Holy Spirit is more than all of the above. He is Real, He has an identity and not just an identity but a Divine identity. Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, He is the Spirit of Christ Romans 8:9. Infact He is God. The Holy Spirit is the third person in Trinity and therefore has all the attributes of Divinity. There is nothing that God is that the Holy Spirit is not. A.
ATTRIBUTES OF HIS DIVINITY
1) THE HOLY SPIRIT IS OMNIPOTENT: The omnipotence of the Holy Spirit can be seen in His involvement of the creation of the universe Genesis 1:2. The Holy Spirit also gives life Job 33:4. And also in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus 1 Peter 3:18. 2)
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS OMNIPRESENT: The Spirit of
God is everywhere at one time. And thats why the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 139:7- where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? The answer is nowhere! Because the spirit of God is everywhere.
3)
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS OMNISCIENT: From the
scripture we can see that the Holy Spirit is Allknowing not only does He know us more than we know ourselves He also knows the deep things of God which He reveals to us I Corinthians 2:10-11.
4)
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ETERNAL: The eternity of the
Holy Spirit cannot be overemphasized. He is without beginning or end. He has been there from creation. He is still there and will continue to be there. He never changes- how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14
5)
EVIDENCES OF HIS PERSONALITY: If you dont
recognize the personhood of the Holy Spirit you will never appreciate His works. Aside the ability of the Third Person of the Godhead to think, reason, remember, make decisions, feel, love and be grieved I Corinthians 2:10-11, Revelation 2:7, Ephesians 4:30. The Holy Spirit also has other characteristics ascribed to Him that only a person can possess. (1) The Holy Spirit speaks Acts 13:2 (2) The Bible refers to Him as a person John 16:13, John 15:26 (3) He Helps our weaknesses Romans 8:26 (4) He is a Teacher John 14:26 (5) He Comforts believers Acts 9:31 (6) He Leads Romans 8:14 (7) The Holy Spirit is our Guide John 16:13 (8) The Holy Spirit calls people to the work of God Acts 13:2 (9) He gives instruction and others Acts 16:6-7
The Holy Spirit can be referred to as God as evidenced in the
case of Peter with Ananias and Sapphira Acts 5:1-4. The Holy Spirit does things that can only be done by God Almighty. He reproves the world of sin and righteousness John 16:7-8. The Spirit of God cast out devils because we cannot do it on our
own Matthew 12:28. The Holy Spirit raises the dead
Romans 8:11, Ezekiel 37. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and is the same Spirit of Christ. He remains the same yesterday, today and forever. He is a person without a body. Yet He is a person. He comes to dwell in us and with us and we become His body and He empowers us to live like Christ here on earth. Only if we are Born Again. Praise God.
