A resume is generally used in the work force, but can be found in other areas, such as
school. It is a written form of communication between a potential employee and the
employer/interviewer. A resume is one of the first forms of commutation between the two and
and constructs a first impression. The potential employee is the user of the resume. One must
construct a resume with certain criteria to present to the employer/interviewer. The resume is the
potential employeess pitch to the company. They are selling themselves through the resume to
the company. A well-written resume, as well as a well-qualified employee, builds a strong
relationship between them and the company and a great first impression. A resume discusses the
qualities a person possesses: skills, past experiences, education, objectives. These are the points
that pitch oneself to the company. A resume that connects to a companys standards creates a
relationship between the employee and the employer. The language utilized is persuasive.
Depending on the section of the resume, the persuasion can be short and sweet or long and
detailed. The main goal is to persuade the employer to hire the potential employee. The way a
resume is written is just as important as the qualities written in the resume. A resume is used to
sell oneself and persuade the employer to hire them.
A resume consists of a basic set of criteria that explains who someone is and what skills
they have to offer to the company. A basic resume consists of an overview of past work
experience, education achievements, strengths, qualifications for the job, and occasionally
personal achievements outside of work and school. Anything that relates directly to the position
is emphasized more than the others. Generally, each criteria is explained thoroughly to make sure
the employer understands what one is capable of and whether or not they are qualified for the

position. Persuasion within the resume comes from emphasizing the main skills that qualify
oneself for the position and elaborating on those skills more than the others. Also, by making
sure the positives override any negatives present, the first impression would more than likely be
stronger than if the negatives were equally described as the positives. The criteria within a
resume is normally a basic set and the same for everyone, but the emphasis and elaboration on
qualities that are positive and related the the desired position determines the quality of the
resume as a whole and creates a stronger relationship with the potential employee and employer.
Persuasion is the key.
