Comparison between Windows OS

and Linux OS
Introduction to Windows OS:
Windows is a family of graphical operating system
developed by the Microsoft Corporation. This family
consists of many different operating systems that are
developed to serve the needs of different sectors of
computing industry.
Windows OS was first introduced on November 20, 1985
when the interest in Graphical User Interface was
increasing. MS Windows took over the world of operating
systems when it became the most used OS in computers
across all the sectors of computer industry.
Many versions of Windows have been introduced till now.
Some of these versions are:

1)Windows
2)Windows
3)Windows
4)Windows

1.0
2.0
3.x series
9x series

And many more.

The latest version introduced is the Windows 8.1. A newer

and more advanced version Windows 10 will be made
available on 29th July, 2015.

Introduction to Linux OS:

The Linux operating system belongs to the Unix-Like OS
family. The defining component of the Linux is the Linux
Kernel, an operating system kernel first released on 5th
October, 1991 by Linux Torvalds.
Linux was developed as a free operating system for
personal computers. Linux, in its original form, is also the
leading operating system on servers and other big
iron systems such as mainframe computers
and supercomputers, but it is not used on Personal
Computers.
There are many versions of Linux OS available in the
market today. Some of these versions are:
1)Linux Mint
2)Ubuntu
3)Debian
4)Magiea
5)Fedora
And many more.

Most of these versions get regular updates and are used

on many computers around the world.

Cost Comparison:
Both, Windows OS and Linux OS, are readily available in
the market and are bought and updated by customers on
a regular basis. Windows OS is sold more because of its
user-friendly interface.
Linux was developed as free operating system for
Personal Computers and it is still distributed freely and
can be downloaded and updated without any charges.
There are some premium versions of Linux OS which
arent available for free and are sold for a specific price
because of the extra features and services they include,
but they are easily affordable and not at all expensive.
Linux OS is cheaper than Windows OS.
Unlike Linux OS, Windows OS is not free operating
system. It is commercial software that comes in different
prices depending on the version and its features.
The cost of Windows OS ranges from $120-$200
depending on what the user demands. Students can get

their version of Windows in $69 which is very much

expensive than Linux OS.
Despite of its high cost Windows OS dominates the world
of Personal Computers unlike Linux OS which is mostly
used on Mainframes and Supercomputers.
