1. DEFINITION This standard applies to figs for supply fresh to the consumer. Figs for industrial use are excluded.
2. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Intact, sound, clean, fresh in appearance, practically free from pests and their damages, free of abnormal external moisture, free of any foreign smell
and/or taste.
Development and condition must be such as to enable them to withstand transport and handling, and to arrive in satisfactory condition at destination.

3. CLASSIFICATION
Extra Class:
Superior quality. Characteristic of the variety. Intact stem. Only very slight superficial defects allowed.
Tolerance: 5% by number or weight out of standards, not more than 0.5 per cent in total may consist of produce satisfying the requirements of Class II
quality.
Class I:
Good quality. Characteristic of the variety.
Defects allowed:
- slight defects in shape, development and/or colouring,
- slightly damaged stem (not split skin),
- slight skin defects:
- slight longitudinal cracks in the skin,
- cracks on the side opposite to the stem (total length 3 cm),
- slight corkiness of the skin (woody figs) or slight abrasion ( 1 cm in length for elongated defects or 0,5 cm2 for others).
Tolerance: 10% by number or weight out of standards, not more than 1 per cent in total may consist of produce satisfying neither the requirements of
Class II quality nor the minimum requirements, or of produce affected by decay.
Class II:
Flesh free from major defects. Defects allowed:
- defects in shape, development and/or in colouring,
- missing stem (loss not causing deep splitting of the skin),
- skin defects:
- cracks on the opposite side to the stem (overall length 4 cm and single cracks are 3 cm)
- slight corkiness of the skin (woody figs) or slightly abrasion ( 2 cm in length for elongated defects or 1,5 cm2 for others),
- longitudinal cracks in the skin.
Tolerance: 10% by number or weight out of standards, not more than 2 per cent in total may consist of produce affected by decay.

Size tolerance: 10% by number or weight out of specifications, but having a minimum size of 35 mm.
Uniformity: in origin, variety, quality and appreciably the same degree of ripeness or development and, for the Extra Class, of
uniform colouring. The visible part must be representative of the entire contents.
Packaging: The produce must be packed in such a way to assure its protection.

Materials must be new, clean and of a proper quality. Non-toxic ink or glue.
PRESENTATION
Stickers individually affixed to the produce shall be such that, when removed, they neither leave visible traces of glue, nor lead to
skin defects.
Packages must be free of all foreign matter.
Identification: Name and physical address of the packers or dispatcher/shipper, or a code mark officially recognized by the national
authority. the reference. In the latter case, the reference packer and/or dispatcher (or equivalent abbreviations) must be indicated in
