CURRICULAR STATEMENT
Pupils develop an understanding on the concept `Relative
motion through experimentation, observation and discussion
and also develop an ability to use the acquired knowledge in
another situations

CONTENT ANALYSIS

body

FACTS

State of rest, State of motion, Reference

i. A passenger in a moving bus is in state of rest

with respect to the bus and in state of motion
with respect to the rod
ii. A child standing in a field is in state of rest
with respect to the ground but in the state of
motion with respect to the sun
iii. A crow sitting on a cow is in state of rest with
respect to the cow and in state of motion with
respect to the ground
iv. A book on s rotating table is in state of rest
with respect to the table and in state of
motion with respect to the ground
v. The baby of kangaroo is in the state of rest
with respect to the mother and in state of
motion with respect to the ground

vi. The earth is not seems to be moving with

respect to us but seems to be moving when
watching from other planets
vii. All creatures on earth are in state of motion
with respect to the sun but not in motion with
respect to the earth

CONCEPTS:
i. Reference body: Reference body is the body
with respect to which the state of rest or state of
motion of another body can be described
ii. State of rest: If the position of a body does not
changes with respect to the reference body then
the body is said to be at rest
iii. State of motion: If the position of a body
changes with respect to another body then the
body is said to be in state of motion

LEARNING OUTCOME
To enable the pupil to
1. recalling terms and definitions of state of
rest, state of motion and reference body
and recognizing the same for developing
factual knowledge
2. explaining the process and definitions of
state of rest, state of motion and reference
body for developing conceptual knowledge
3. conducting
practical
works
on
the
techniques of finding out the state of a
body with respect to the reference body for
developing procedural knowledge
4. validating the process of defining state of
rest, state of motion and reference body
for developing meta cognitive knowledge

PRE-REQUISITES

The pupils already knows that sometimes they are in motion

and sometimes they are t rest

INTRODUCTION
1. Have you ever travelled in a bus?
2. Do you like to see sites while
travelling in a bus?
3. Did you feel that the trees and hills
are running backward when we move
forward?
4. Did your companions are seem to be
running backward?
5. Why did you feel like this?
So today through this class we will discuss
about this. Teacher starts the class.

PRESENTTION

Teacher divides the whole students in to
groups
four groups and name them as NEWTON,
EINSTEIN, GALILI, KEPLER and ask them to
do the following activities.
ACTIVITY NO:1
Students watch the
Teacher shows a video of a group of
video and answer the
person travelling in a bus. In the video a
questions
person standing outside the bus is waving
his hands towards a passenger inside the
bus. Teacher instructed the students to
watch the video and to answer the
following questions by discussing in the

group.
A bus journey
DISCUSSION CLUES
Yes
1. What do you saw in the video?
2. Whether the position of the passenger
changes with respect to the man
standing outside?
No
3. Does his position changes with
respect to the companion in the bus?
CONCEPTS TO BE
CONSOLIDATED
The position of the passenger changes with
respect to the road but does not changes
with respect to the bus

ACTIVITY NO:2
Teacher shows a video of a crow sitting
on a cow grazing in a field. Teacher
instructed the pupils to watch it and to
answer
the
following
questions
by
discussing in the group.

Students watch the

video and answer the
questions

A crow and a cow

No

DISCUSSION CLUES
1. What do you see in the video?
2. Does the position of the crow changes Yes
with respect to the cow?
3. Does the position of the crow changes
with respect to the ground?
CONCEPTS TO BE

CONSOLIDATED
The position of the crow changes with
respect to the ground but doesnt changes Students watch the
with respect to the cow
video
ACTIVITY NO: 3

Teacher shows a video of solar system

to the students. Instructed them to watch it Solar system
and to answer the following questions by No
discussing in the group.
Yes
DISCUSSION CLUES
1. What do you see in the video?
2. Do we feel that the earth is moving
with respect to us?
3. Does the earth is seems to be
moving when watching from other
planets?
CONCEPTS TO BE
CONSOLIDATED
When observing from earth the earth is
seems to be not moving. But the earth
actually moves.
GENERALISATION
From the above activities it is clear that
a body is said to be in state of rest or state
of motion only with respect to another
body. When the body in reference changes
the state also changes.
Reference body is the body with respect to
which the state of rest or state of motion
of another body can be described
If the position of a body does not changes
with respect to the reference body then
the body is said to be at rest

If the position of a body changes with

respect to another body then the body is
said to be in state of motion
