NEURAMAP TO OFM

ABSTRACT,
TAQA has inherited several software tools from their previous companies (Northrock,
Primewest) and one of them is Neuramap that improve the digitizing process by
implementing neural network algorithm for pixels pattern recognition image instead of
the already obsolete digitizing tablet procedure. It is my suggestion under this
documentation that this tool be more wisely used in order to speed up the analog to
digital data capturing. This guide lines are a continuation of a workflow that transfer
shape files into an annotation image in OFM and that is not explained here. The intention
of this guidelines are to help the engineer, to avoid the extra-digitizing of what has been
already digitized in Neuramap and be able to create the grid map in an already created
OFM project. The applications involved on this workflow are Neuramap, surfer 8 and
OFM, so make sure you have the three installed in your system in order to be able to
execute these steps. Should you have any questions after trying this please contact me at
hugo.martinez@taqa.ca or X 5325.
Neuramap Exporting Procedure:
Once you have finished the raster to vector exercise in Neuramap make sure you save
your project and perform the below steps in order to created the XYZ file that will be
imported and gridded in Surfer 8.
1. Once finished in Neuramap and ready to
export, select File menu option then,
2. Export Vectors

3. OFM and surfer only work in X,Y,Z coordinates so make sure your map group it
is based on UTM
4. Select the Correct Map system Zone for your map area.
5. Select the Correct Datum on your map area.
6. Press Click in OK to go back
7. Then press click in export button to generate the XYZ file.

8. Select the Map group as UTM since our goal

is to have exported Cartesian coordinates.
9. Select the correct Map System Zone of your
area.
10. Select the correct Datum that belongs to the
projection of your map area.
11. Press click on Ok button.
12. Press click on the Export button, then your
exported file will resides on the path shown
on step 3. This exported file will be the input
for Surfer in order to create the Grid file for
OFM.

Surfer Gridding Generation:

The following steps will be under Surfer 8. So please run the surfer application.
1. Select Grid menu option
2. Select Data Menu option

3. Select your Neuramap

exported data (XYZ) file.
4. Press click on Open

5. Select the gridding

method. I recommend
triangulation with linear
interpolation for net pay
contour maps.
6. Be aware the grid output
file path and name
7. Change the X grid
increment and keep this
number in mind.
8. Change the Y grid incr.
and keep this in mind.
9. Press OK to generate
Grid

10. The grid file will be created and a report will display, dont save this and just
close it.
11. For validation purposes display the contour map
12. On the main Surfer menu options bar follow.
13. From menu option select Map.
14. Then Contour Map.
15. Then New Contour Map.

16. Select the generated grid

file
17. Press click in Open.
18. You will see the contour
map display.

Now is time to export the ASCII grid file that will be used for OFM.

19. Select Grid.

20. Convert
21. Select the Grid file you will export to OFM.
22. Press click in Open.
23. Type a new grid ASCII file
name and make sure the save
as type format is set to GS
ASCII (*.grd)
24. Be aware the export location
of the file and press Click on
Save button.

ASCII Grid File Editing:

This is a manual editing that will create the CPS format file that OFM can read. The
following keywords need to be inserted on the exported ASCII grid file from surfer.
FSASCI 0 1 "Computed" 0 1.000000e+030 0
FSATTR 0 0
FSLIMI Xmin Xmax Ymin Ymax Contour(Min) Contour(max)
FSNROW Row(min) Col(min)
FSXINC Xincr YIncr

The goal of this editing is to change the surfer file into CPS ASCII file as follow:
Line A should be FSASCI 0 1 "Computed" 0 1.000000e+030 0
Line B should be FSATTR 0 0
Line C should be FSLIMI 988287.8768 993192.57 5385035.784 5391404.073 0 5
Be aware 3, 4, 5 and 6 from the Surfer ASCII File are the numbers on the FSLIMI
keyword. The numbers 0 5 are the minimum and maximum contour intervals
respectively.
Line D should be FSNROW 197 256
Be aware 1 and 2 from Surfer ASCII File are the numbers on the FSNROW

Line E should be FSXINC 2.500000e+001 2.500000e+001

Be aware these numbers comes from steps 7 and 8 identified as grid increment
from the Surfer Gridding Generation section on this documentation.
Line F should be as ->Grid-1
Be aware Grid-1 word could be any name.
Once you have changed the file save it and you can now open OFM to import the
new edited CPS file

OFM CPS File Import Process:

25.

Open your OFM project. Select Analysis menu option, then grid Map.

26. Select an existing Dataset,

then press click to Open.

27. To import the CPS file select File from the main OFM Menu option.
28. Choose Import CPS
29. Select the Edited Grid Surfer File into CPS, then Open the file.

If you have performed all the steps, the imported grid should appear in front
of you. I hope you enjoyed.
