Answer all questions in this section.

1.

A student carries out an experiment to investigate the relationship between the

weight of load exerted and air pressure produced in a simple piston system.
The apparatus set up for this experiment is shown in Diagram 1.1.

The student starts the experiment with the mass, m of a load of 0.1 kg.
The corresponding reading for difference of mercury level, h is shown in Diagram 1.2
on page 3.
The experiment is repeated with different mass of loads which are, m= 0.2 kg, 0.3 kg,
0.4 kg and 0.5 kg. The corresponding readings of difference of mercury level, h are
shown in Diagram 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 on pages 3 and 4

Calculate the values of Force, F and reading for difference of mercury

level, h for each diagrams. Record the values in the space provided.
[2 marks]

(c)

Gas pressure, P is calculated using the formula

P = h + Patm
Where Patm is equivalent to the Atmospheric Pressure, 76.0 cm Hg.
For every h and F values in 1(b), calculate Gas Pressure, P and record
your values in the space provided.
Tabulate your results for all values of F, h and P in the space given below
