1. In a room 2/3 of the people are female. If 12 male are married and 60% of the male are
unmarried. What is the total number of people?
Solution:
60% of the male are unmarried. So, 40% of the male are married.
a/q:
40% of total no. of male = 12
100% of total no. of male = 12100/40 = 30
2/3 of the people are female. So, 1/3 of the people are male.
a/q:
1/3 of the people = 30
Total people = 303/1 = 90.
ans: 90.

2. A person travel 70 miles at 2.5 hours. If he want to less the total journey time by 0.75 hours,
then he have to travel more in per hour is?
Solution:
He wants to reduce the total journey time by 0.75 hours. So, his total journey hours will be = 2.5
- 0.75 = 1.75 hours.
At present, his speed is = 70/2.5 = 700/25 = 28 mph
His target speed is = 70/1.75 = 7000/175 = 280/7 = 40 mph
So, he have to travel @ (40-28) = 12 more miles per hour.
Ans: 12

3. The ratio of boys and girls is 3:4.Which of the following can't be the total students number?
Solution:
The ratio of boys and girls = 3 : 4.
So, if the number of boys in the class is 3p, then the number of girls in the class is 4p; and
therefore, total number of students in the class is = 3p+4p = 7p.
... Choose that option which is not a multiple of 7.
Ans: Option that is not a multiple of 7.

6. A person makes 6% profit on sales of 10000 tk and 5% profits on sales exceeds of 10000 tk. If
in a month he makes a total of 60000 tk sales, then what is total profit?

Solution:
Profit on first Tk. 10000 sale = 1000000.06 = 600
Profit on the amount exceeding Tk. 10000 sale = (60000-10000) 0.05 = 2500.
So, his total profit = 600+2500 = 3100.
ans: Tk. 3100

7. In a school 1/2 of the students like football, 1/3 of the remaining students like cricket. If 300
students don't like any game, then what is the total number of students?
Solution:
Total student = P
no. of students who like football = P/2
no. of remaining students = P - P/2 = P/2.
no. of students who like cricket = (P/2)/3 = P/6
no. of students who don't like any game = P - P/2 - P/6 = 2P/6 = P/3.
a/q:
P/3 = 300
P = 900.
So, total no. of students = 900.
ans: 900.

8. If the ratio of the boys and girls is 3:2. If 20% of the boys and 25% of the girls received
scholarships, then what percentage of the total students didn't got scholarships?
Solution:
total no. of boys = 3p, and total no. of girls = 2p.
80% of the boys and 75% of the girls didn't got scholarship.
So, required percentage = (0.83p + 0.752p)/(3p+2p) = (2.4p + 1.5p)/5p = 3.9p/5p = 78%.
ans: 78%.

10. If the population of a country increased by 20% in first year, and decreased the population by
10% in the second year, then what is the overall percentage increased or decreased in 2 years?
Solution:
Initial no. of population = 100p
Population at the end of 1st year = 100p (1+0.2) = 120p
Population at the end of 2nd year = 110p (1-0.1) = 108p
So, increase in population = 108p - 100p = 8p
increase percentage = 8p/100p = 8%.
ans: 8%

11. The difference between the ages of two person is 16. 6 years ago the elder person was 3
times the age of the younger person. What is the age of the elder person?
Let, Age of younger on= X
Age of Older on= X+16
ACQ, 16+X-6= 3(X-6)
Thus X= 14 and Age of Older on= 14+16=30

12. The difference between two numbers is 13.The largest number is 1.5 times the smallest
number? What is the smallest number?
Let, smallest number= x
the largest one is 1.5x
ACQ, 1.5x-x=13 thus x= 26 Ans.

13. A man can do a job alone in 8 days, and son can complete the job in 12 days. Then together
they can complete the job in?
A man can do a job in 1 day = 1/8 of the work
A son can do a job in 1 day = 1/12 of the work
Together they can do in 1 day =1/8+1/12= 5/24 of the work
Thus,
5/24 of the work can complete in 1 days
1 of the work can complete in= 24/5 Days

14. The coordinator of A is (4,1) and B is (-2,7).Then what is the average of the two
coordinators?
We know that,
(Xi+Xii/2), (Yi+Yii/2)
(4+-2/2), (1+7/2)
Thus X,Y= (1,4)

16. In a certain store, the profit is 320% of the cost. If the cost increases by 25% but the selling
price remains constant, approximately what percentage of the selling price is the profit?
Let Cost=x & profit=p, Selling price is= x+3.20x = 4.20x
increase of cost= 1.25x+p=4.20x or p=2.95x
Thus 2.95x/4.20x= 70.23 %
17. A widow received 1/2 of her husbands properties and each of the three sons received 1/3 th
of the remaining properties. If the value of properties received by the widow and one of her son is
432000 tk, then what is the total value of the properties?
Let, Value of properties= x
widow=x/2
one son= x/2*1/3=x/6
ACQ, x/2+x/6=432000
Thus x= 648000
18. The amount of profit earned by selling a product for 900 is double the loss incurred by
selling the products at 450 tk. What is the cost price at 25% profit?
Let, cost=x, Profit=p & loss=l
thus, x+p=900 thus p=900-x
again, x-l=400 thus l=x-400
acq,
900-x=2(x-450)
900-x=2x-900 or 3x=1800 thus x=600
Thus the cost price is 600 tk as cost price is always same whatever the profit or loss percentage
is.
19. A boat travels 20 m downstream and 10 m upstream in the same time .What is the speed of
the stream?
Let,

Speed of stream y
speed of boat x
time= be 1 hour
thus speed in downstream x+y & speed in upstream x-y
ACQ,
(x+y)1=20 or x+y=20.......i
(x-y)1=10 or x-y=10......ii
2x=30 or x=15
thus speed of stream= 5
20. The sale price of an article including the sale tax is tk 616. The rate of sale tax is 10%. If the
shopkeeper has made a profit of 12%,then the cost price of the article is?
Given, price is 616
thus 1.10 ofSelling Price =616 or SP= 616/1.10= 560
Let the cost price is= x
ACQ,
x+.12x=560 or x= 500
Thus the cost price is 500 tk.
