There is a relationship between the music and the visuals (with visuals illustrating,
amplifying or contradicting the music).
There is a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals (with the visuals illustrating,
amplifying or contradicting the music).
Particular music genres have their own music video style and iconography.
There is a demand on the part of the record company for lots of close-ups of the main
artist/vocalist.

Performance. This will come from band members lip-syncing the song.
Narrative. Throughout there will be a loose underlying narrative.

The enhanced performance - videos which blend performance elements with other visual
elements, a blend justified through either associational, narrative, or abstract forms of
motivation.
Briefly describe what will happen in your music video, highlighting camera angles and effects used.
With the overall concept in mind, I will be taking inspiration from Davis Silis and Michael Sloane,
whose work I have studied. The overall tone of Silis music video for Down by The Kooks is similar to
that of what I want to achieve. In my final product I will use abstract shots similar to the ones in this
video, in order to subvert typical conventions of the indie-folk genre. This will be achieved primarily
by using unconventional composition and framing of shots.
However, the main bulk of the music video will be composed of sequences similar to that of Sloanes
in the video for Time and Place by Last Dinosaurs. This consists of outdoor shots of the band
members walking through the forest/a field. I will be using a vast amount of movement in my shots
through techniques such as pans, tilts and tracking shots.
When filming the lip sync/performance sequences of the girls, I will sometimes be using close ups of
them individually, and at other points long shots of them together. Throughout both sequences, I
plan to use slow zooms to make the video feel more dynamic.
I will be experimenting with the use of speed as an effect in this video by using slow motion in more
emotive shots and speeding up faster shots, always with the intention of evoking a certain response
in the viewer.
Double exposure is something I would also like to experiment with; fitting a few alternative double
exposure shots in the video in order to break up the narrative would be an effective way to engage
the viewer. This will only be included if I can subtly transition between the main narrative and the
double exposure shots without it seeming disjointed or out of place.
