Come out because it is going

MHS decided on Ludwigs

Some of the things that make
this adaption different from others is the roles of men being

many other cross-gender roles.
We have gender bended a lot

of our roles, Scanlon Harr said.

The dinner dance is Saturday,

I am so moved and honored. I

to thank the Moorestown Town

Chamberlin

He grew to have much success

Lawmakers trying to model Atlantic City after Las Vegas

Dan McDonough Jr.

chairman of elauwit media

here was a time when Las

Vegas was a struggling gambling resort town. During the
economic crisis of the mid-2000s, people had less money to frivolously
spend and the money they did have
to frivolously spend wasnt going toward casino gambling.
Casino revenue fell, and casinos
along the Strip were in trouble.
And then, casino and hotel executives had an idea. They stopped focusing on gambling and started focusing
on other entertainment attractions.
In addition to building exquisite
shopping centers, luxury pools and
spas, fine dining establishments and
nightclubs, hotels began signing up
musical performers who attracted big
audiences to long-term deals.
Caesars Palace inked a three-year
deal with Celine Dion in 2002 that had
her performing five nights a week at
its venue. Motley Crue signed a similar deal at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and Britney Spears did the same at

Planet Hollywood.
The idea worked. Tickets to these
shows are in high demand, and the
visitors to Las Vegas for the shows
spend money at other attractions
and gambling at Las Vegas casinos.
Naturally, our lawmakers in New
Jersey think this is a good idea, and
they want to bring it to Atlantic City.
They already followed in Vegas footsteps with the dining, nightlife, shopping and revitalization of the town, so
why not piggyback on the entertainment residency idea?
A state Senate committee approved
a new bill last week, dubbed the Britney Bill, that would exempt stars who
play at least four nights in Atlantic
City from having to pay state income
taxes on all shows they play in New

Jersey.
Senate Republican Leader Tom
Kean, who co-sponsored the bill, said
he believes Atlantic City can transform into a premier entertainment
destination, and this bill would help
it do that. More than 50,000 fans paid
to see Maroon 5 in Atlantic City this
past August, and Kean believes people
would flock to the city from all over to
see other A-listers, if it were the only
place they would play.
New Jersey Policy Perspectives
head says its a waste of money, and
that star entertainers dont pick venues based on whether they have to pay
taxes. We agree that these A-listers
probably pick venues off how many
tickets they can sell, but if Atlantic
City really can be an entertainment
destination that sells 50,000 tickets to a
concert, and if a tax incentive program like this would indeed help to attract more A-listers, then what is the
downside? Sure, wed lose the tax revenue, but wed gain all the visitors.

Writer: Whats the delay?
We want our park now
Since moving back to Moorestown three
years ago, Ive walked by a modest parcel of
land on the corner of High and Main
streets. It would be considered a prime
piece of real estate if someone had the cash
to build upon it. But no, this corner has
been preserved for a park.
Most of us Moorestownians have eagerly awaited a place to rest our behinds on for
a bit of people watching, especially when
the leaves are turning the kaleidoscope colors of autumn or the children of summer

time are licking the melting ice cream

cones off their fingers
Its such a perfect slice of land smack in
the middle of town, but one nagging question has been kvetching my curiosity.
When will Perchon Park be a reality? God
knows the sign with the promise is beginning to fade from old age.
Two years ago, I bought a few expensive
raffle tickets in the hopes of winning a
shiny red Toyota that was parked in the
park. What happened to the hundreds of
dollars raised from that event? Please dont
tell me it was spent on the car.
At one point, there was a banner draped

over the sign that read Coming Soon. The

Make holiday memories

on the next Senior Trip
By KAHRA F. BUSS
Dept. of Parks & Recreation
As the autumn weather arrives,
we find relief in the cooler days,
the changing of the leaves and the
imminent arrival of the holidays.
Yes, while it is mid-October now,
we will blink our eyes and it will
suddenly be mid-November and
the holiday season is upon us.
What better time than now to
start planning holiday activities?
The Department of Parks and
Recreation is working with the
Evergreen Womens Club to make
holiday memories on the next Senior Trip.
This fall, the department is coordinating a day trip to Caesars in
Atlantic City to see Elf. This favorite Broadway adaptation of
the movie starring Will Farrell is
the story of an orphaned baby
who becomes Santas champion.
When Santa is out delivering his
presents to the world's children,
little does he know that he has
picked up an unexpected visitor;

an orphaned baby boy has

crawled into his present sack, and
he is unknowingly whisked off to
the North Pole. Years later, the
boy, Buddy, now a fully grown
man, is confronted with a startling truth; he is not in fact an elf,
but a human. With Santa's permission, he heads off to the bright
lights of New York City to discover his real birth family. Buddys
personal journey becomes a mission to save the Christmas spirit.
Buddys genuine love for Christmas, and desire to improve the attitudes of the surly New Yorkers
he encounters, including his birth
father, and the hilarity that ensues can lift even the grinchiest
spirit.
The Department of Parks and
Recreation is proud to partner
with the Evergreens Womens
Club to offer this event as one of
the many Senior Trips that
occur during the course of the
year. This trip is scheduled for

Three hundred thirty five

just one of eight from New Jersey

(The Addams Family).
Hes also been in many movies,
including Die Hard With A
Vengeance, and several TV series, including Heroes and most
recently Disneys Jessie, for

which he has directed several

episodes.
My first Broadway show I
went to see was Peter Pan with
Sandy Duncan at Lunt-Fontanne
Theatre, Chamberlain said.
Thirty years later, I performed at
the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre and
was able to look down at the seat I
was sitting in and remember
when I fell in love with theater.
At the Town Council meeting
on Oct. 5, Mayor Victoria Napolitano read a proclamation to
Chamberlin commending him for
his accomplishments. Chamberlain appeared at the meeting via
Skype.
That night, Chamberlin gave a
teary-eyed thank you to council
and MTC, saying he is honored
and very grateful for the awards.
His wish is Town Council will
continue to fund the arts in
Moorestown.
Keep the arts programs alive
and well in Moorestown. The benefits and rewards are invaluable;
they certainly were to this kid,
Chamberlin said.
Morgan, MTCs artistic director, will present Chamberlin the
proclamation as well as at its
Theater Legend Award at Extava-Gala on Oct. 17.
The Theater Legend Award
was created to honor a Moorestonian who has gone on to a successful professional theater career as a congratulations on their
success. Morgan said Chamberlain was an obvious first
choice. However, there is a second purpose to encourage
young performers of Moorestown
and the MTC that they can be successful and have a career in the
arts.
We just really wanted to have
the award to honor someone like
(Chamberlin) and to show an example of a successful performer
to our current performers, Morgan said.
At the Extava-Gala, there
will be a slew of surprises, including Chamberlain performing
a song alongside about 25-30 children from his Tony-nominated
performance in Seussical.
The Extava-Gala will be held
at the Riverton Country Club, loplease see NEXT, page 16

In other council news:
Proclamations were also
given to the Community Emer-

gency Response Team members

and for Put the Breaks on Fatalities Day and Domestic Violence
Awareness Month. Council recognized the six members of the
Community
Emergency
Response Team.
The team went to Camden to
assist Camden County law enforcement during Pope Franciss
visit and were also prepared to respond if Hurricane Joaquin had
hit New Jersey.
In honor of Domestic Violence
Awareness Month, council recognized Melissa Young for organizing the inaugural Pub Crawl at
the Moorestown Mall in April.
Proceeds benefitted the Providence House Domestic Violence
Services.
The Moorestown Police Department gave a presentation explaining to council the duties of
the department, what it has accomplished so far and where it
will be going. Some of the highlights were that the department is

upgrading car cameras; is incorporating body cameras before the

end of 2015; solved several major
burglaries and crime rings; increased presence on the streets at
minimal costs with SLEO class II
officers; successfully increased
use of social media to get information to residents and businesses; is offering residents a successful vacation house check program; and is transitioning to
more sustainable patrol fleets.
Council unanimously approved an ordinance on second
reading to replace the townships
chapter 11 Drug-Free School
Zones with Drug-Free Zones
and adopt a new map. The drugfree zones previously applied only
to schools. The replacement chapter will include public housing facilities, public parks and public
buildings.

did a good job and that it was a really good show, Scheibe said.
MHS Theater is going to try to
bring the pirate feel into the audience. During intermission, some
pirates will come to take pictures
with audience members, and
there will be pirate-themed face
painting available, too.
Itll make it feel like a whole

event, Scanlon Harr said.

Performances will take place
in the Moorestown High School
auditorium, 350 Bridgeboro Road,
on Thursday, Oct. 22, Friday, Oct.
23, and Saturday, Oct. 24. Tickets
can be purchased online at
moorestownhstheater.weebly.com.
If youre really into literature,
it is obviously an amazing story,
and it has adapted really well into
a play. And it just has this really
fun, high energy even when it
gets really serious. You cant be
bored watching this show, said
Max Bixby, who is playing Captain Smollet.
For more information and updates, find Moorestown High
School Theater on Facebook or
