Procedures
Editing or Creating a Vector Layer to Populate with 3D Models

If you have an existing Vector Layer that you want to populate, open it in a viewer and go to Vector | Enable
Editing. (See Figure 1)
If you would like to create a vector layer to populate with 3D models:

Open the raster image that you will be populating in a viewer.

Go to File | New | Vector Layer. (See Figure 2)

Use the Vector Tool Palette

When you are finished, hit the

to create the polygons

that you want to populate.

Save Top Layer Icon.

Now that Editing is enabled, go to Vector | Attributes (See Figure3)

The first attribute should look like Figure 5.

Title = MODEL_NAME
Type = String

Figure 5

Make sure the Max Width is set large enough to fit the full path to your models. If you are using
models from the ERDAS Model Library, the path will look something like this.
C:\ProgramFiles\IMAGINE8.5\etc\VirtualModels\MatureTrees\4abipin0.img

Hit the New button again (See Figure 6)

Title = MIN_SIZE
Type = Real

Now hit OK

In the Viewer, go to File | Save | Top Layer (See Figure 9)

Figure 9

Once you have saved your Vector layer, you will need to Build Vector Layer Topology. Follow the steps below.
Select the file that you just edited in the Build Vector Layer Topology dialog and make sure that the Feature is
set to polygon. Click OK.

Once you have built your coverage, you will need to open it in a viewer and go to Vector | Attributes. Find the
attribute Columns that you just created and fill in the appropriate information.
Model name is the path to the model that you want to use to populate your polygon.
example = C:\ProgramFiles\IMAGINE8.5\etc\VirtualModels\MatureTrees\4abipin0.img
Min Size = the minimum size of the model
Max Size = the maximum size of the model
Count = the number of models you want placed inside the polygon
Now go to the procedure on Automatically Populating
