Trash To Treasure
Its Trash to Treasure time again! The RDCKs semiannual celebration of waste reduction is on Saturday,
October 17. This one day event gives people a change
to give away used items to those who may find value in
them. Its also an opportunity for residents to search their
community for their neighbours unwanted treasures.
Participating in this annual community event is easy
and encourages re-use while diverting waste from the
regions landfills, says RDCK Chair Karen Hamling.
On October 17, residents are encouraged to place any
gently used, unwanted household goods together at the
front of their property in a location that can be safely
accessed by treasure hunters. A sign should clearly indicate which items are available to take home. By 4 pm
the same day all remaining items should be gathered up
and taken inside. Please keep your community clean by
removing leftover items!

Can you trust the NDP?
It is so easy to stop remembering who lived where, or

why the old trail across the top of the community has disappeared... and what was the name of that delicious dessert that always appeared at community gatherings?
On Sunday, November 1 from 1 pm - 4 pmish, Argenta
will celebrate the lives of those who were part of the
community, and those still here in our lovely cemetery.
A concert with local choir (lead by our wonderful choir
mistress, Noemi Kiss), a dessert potluck, and sharing of
our history and stories is planned.
In this way, more of us (who may not have been here for
long, and/or may not know the local history) can hold on
to our collective past through music, food, and memories.
If you have always wondered about someone or something in the community, bring along your questions, and
perhaps we can offer some answers.

back the long-gun registry in a future NDP federal government.

Mulcair ordered all NDP MPs to oppose scrapping the useless gun registry in
2012.
Mulcair severely sanctioned MPs who dared vote for their constituents and
against the NDP party line.
The long-gun registry cost Canadians over $2 billion and didnt save a single
life. Mulcair still pushes such expensive useless schemes.
Mulcairs NDP also voted against every other effort by the Conservative government to simplify our overly complex and ineffective gun regulations.
Should British Columbians trust Mulcairs NDP?
Mulcair must maintain his base in Montreal and Toronto to retain power; they
are the people who favour even more and stricter gun controls.
Would the policies of a Mulcair government reflect BC or Quebec?

Kootenay Animal Assistance

Program Society (KAAP) is having a Burger n Beer Fundraiser
evening, to benefit homeless and
needy cats and dogs, at Finleys
Bar and Grill in Nelson on Saturday, October 17 from 6 to 8 pm.
Part of the fundraising will be
by raffles for themed gift baskets
and there will also be a 50/50
draw.
KAAP has been an important animal welfare group in the
West Kootenay since 2007. Over
that time, more than 1500 cats
and dogs have been fixed, fostered, and rehomed, and another
2000 cats and dogs owned by
low-income families have been
spayed or neutered. KAAP is
100% volunteer, depending
on private donations from the
community.
Tickets for the event are priced
at just $15 per person. There will
be a veggie option as well as a
non-alcoholic drinks option on
the night. Please come out and
support this worthy and vital
cause that serves all of the West
Kootenay area.

The Vancouver TheatreSports League (VTSL) has been

wowing audiences since opening their doors in 1980. On
October 23, the six time International Improv Comedy
Award winners will be bringing their distinctive brand of
performance to the Rossland Miners Hall!
TheatreSports is a unique type of performance; the
audience provides the inspiration in the form of suggestions, and the performers provide the entertainment
in the form of hilarious improvised scenes, think Whos
Line is it Anyway? Improv allows the audience to see their
ideas instantly transformed into reality. Whether reconstructing the story of an audience members first kiss, a
bad day on the job, or a recent mishap, each performance
is as original as its audience.
The performance will be presented by the Rossland
Council for Arts and Culture (RCAC). RCAC was awarded
a grant from BC Touring Council to present a youth
focused performance and decided they would like to host
a performance that would also include a workshop component. We wanted to introduce a new genre of performance
to Rossland, as well as provide an opportunity for youth
to participate in and learn about that art form, says Tara
Kowalchuk, RCAC Executive Administrator. We found
Vancouver TheatreSports League and they are a perfect fit!
VTSL will be facilitating a TheatreSports Workshop for
Youth from 1 pm - 3:00 pm on Friday, October 23. The
workshop will allow youth to learn about TheatreSports
and practice the art of Improv. It is suitable for youth with
a wide range of theatre/acting ability. We encourage all
