Loyola School of Mass Communication Student Helping Promote Junior Achievement
Loyola University New Orleans School of Mass Communication student Sophia Masone is working with Junior
Achievement of Greater New Orleans (JA) to promote their program to the community of New Orleans.
The inspiration for working with JA comes from Masones Writing for Public Relations class at Loyola University New
Orleans. This is a service learning course with a real client chosen through a request for proposal process. The service-learning
objective of this course is to provide strategic communication materials to our nonprofit community partner to aid in their
mission within our community.
Alongside her colleagues, Masone will help JA develop a public relations campaign displaying businesses, donors,
alumni, students and educators for their program. This campaign will increase JA awareness through a 60 th anniversary event
that will take place in 2015.
As a former tutor for elementary students I am excited to be part of something that is inspiring learning in New Orleans for
people of all ages. I think that entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills are necessary for all walks of life, regardless of their
profession or goals, said Masone.
Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans (JA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit economic education organization, incorporated
in New Orleans in 1919. JA inspires kids to strive for success through programs that promote work-readiness, entrepreneurship
and financial literacy skills and experiential learning.
After graduating from Loyola University New Orleans in 2016, Masone plans to start her own PR firm. At Niceville
High School Masone enjoyed being involved in school by holding leadership positions such as, vice president of the Student
Government Association (SGA) and starting Inter Club Council (ICC), which is still active today. Masone continues her
leadership roles as director of rituals for her sorority, Delta Gamma.

Established in 1937, the Loyola University School of Mass Communication offers sequences of advertising, public
relations and journalism. It is the only Jesuit school to hold the CEPR and the second Jesuit school to be accredited by
ACEJMC and the only Louisiana school with both. The School of Mass Communication strives to educate students as a whole
person in order to enable them to become leaders.
