This brief will explain my plans for my newspaper using the key media concepts.

My chosen piece of coursework will be to create a local newspaper. The reason

why I have chosen to produce a local newspaper is because I see it as the most
ideal task that best suits my interests and skills. The name of my newspaper will
be "Teen Today". I selected this particular name because it is modern and
contemporary, but also eye-catching and memorable.

   TATIO
My newspaper will be designed to represent the local community. Wit hin the local
community is my target audience which primarily consists of young people
between the ages of 13 -19. To represent young people within the local community,
I must identify and address their needs and interests. During
the gatekeeping process, (selection of news stories), I believe it is important to
include both positive and negative news in my newspaper as teenagers are often
represented predominantly negatively in most regional newspapers such as 'The
un'. The forms and conventions of my newspaper will follow a tabloid format
which includes extensive use of colour, fonts and images which will also represent
the target audience.

ITITUTIO
My newspaper will consist of a front page and inside page and will be sold as a
free. eeing as this is a local newspaper, I have realised from previous research
that it is important to sell my paper as a freebie because the large majority of
teenagers won't pay for local newspapers. However, in order to achieve a
sustainable source of income to support the production of my newspaper, I will
need to include advertisement wher e possible on the front and inside pages as this
is also how most local newspapers obtain their main source of income in order to
pay for the on-going printing costs. An example for this reasoning is "The ews
hopper".

ODUCTIO VALU (QUALITY)

The production values of my newspaper will not be similar to that of The un or
Daily Mail because they are regional newspapers and my newspaper will be local.
However, my newspaper won't exactly have the same production values as other
local newspapers like The Metro or London Lite because I am a student and I don't
have access to the same financial budget as these newspapers . Although I won't
have a huge amount of money to spend whilst producing my newspaper, I believe I
can design the newspaper very close to the design of a professional local
newspaper. When you have a big budget you can afford the best designers,
photographers, journalists etc.

AUDI C
The target audience of my newspaper will be aimed at a young demographic social
group who are between the ages of 13-19 within the local community. Because I
also fall into this particular demographic category, I will be able to produce a
newspaper which appeals not only to me, but also to the interests of my intended
target audience. I will discuss the details of my target audience's demographics
and psychographics later on during my newspaper research.

LAUA
The language contained in my newspaper will be tailored towards the age group of
my target audience. The vast majority of teenagers between the ages of 13-19
enjoy short and concise articles with possible interviews/opinions on stories from
people of the same age category. I may include some colloquial language or puns
in order to sustain the reader's interest throughout the newspaper but overall, the
use of language will be coherent with the respective age group of my target
audience.

ID OLOY
The vast majority of newspapers have ideologies formed from a set of aims, beliefs
and opinions. These beliefs and opinions have in recent years, become
overshadowed by the dividing power of politics. For example, the Daily Mail is a
national newspaper which incorporates a political bias/stance within its news
articles. Currently, the Daily Mail is 'right-wing' in its political views which means
the newspaper strongly supports the conservative party. As my newspaper is
targeted at a young demographic, it's fair to assume my target audience will not
have any sort of judgement on current political standings based solely on the
interests of that age group. My ideology is to concentrate on meeting the needs
and interests of my target audience through news.

AATIV

ewspaper narrative describes how news can be read within a context. The
narrative of my newspaper is to

My main story will discuss the current issues surrounding teenage binge drinking
in Orpington. The story will cover topics such as health, current government
policies and a small interview with a teenager from Orpington. My sub story will
focus on a very current issue in the music industry which relates to the illegal
downloading and file sharing of music. I have chosen these two news stories
because my target audience will be able to relate to the situations in both.

My newspaper is directed at the local community; predominantly young people.

Therefore, the genre of my newspaper is categorised as a local newspaper
constructed in a tabloid format. The main aim of local newspapers is to focus on
news which is relevant to the surrounding community. The news stories that will
be covered on the front and inside page of my newspaper aren't strictly directed at
the local community, but both the lead story and sub -story contain target audience
relevance target as the lead story discusses issue of binge drinking and health
amongst teenagers today and the sub-story discusses the online illegal file sharing
pandemic affecting teenager across the UK.
