Generally, this study determines the factors that contribute to the SYSTEMS OF
OPERATIONS OF KAPAMPANGAN THEATRE: ITS CHALLENGES AND IMPLICATION. It seeks to
answer the following questions: what are the profiles of the selected Kapampangan theatre
groups in terms of their length of membership in the group, number of members and
performances of each theatre group; what are the operations being applied by theatre
production in terms of the frequency, venue, and genre of performances and the financial
support; what are the challenges being faced by theatre productions; and what are the
implications of the challenges in the operations in the life of Kapampangan theatre groups.

The major findings of the study in terms of the theatre groupƎs profile is that most of the
respondents have been members in their group for 6-10 years, have 21-30 members, and have
produced less than 10 performances since they existed. In terms of the operation being applied
to their group is that they produce plays twice a year, perform mostly in schools and the
musical genre, and they get their financial needs through solicitations. In terms of the most
challenges being faced to their group under finance is that it is hard to solicit funds; under
marketing, the ticket sales are low; under manpower, lack of production staff; under
props/costumes/set, the set design is expensive.

In terms of the implications, the said challenge under finance is that the aesthetics of
the play suffer due to the low budgeting; under manpower, the challenge of the of the lack of
production staff results to the multi-tasking of the production staff and artists; the said
challenge under marketing results to the theatre groups not earning much in the show; and
under props/costumes/set, the implication of the challenge is that the set designs are not
appreciated due to the low quality of the set.

The conclusion that the researchers came up with based on the gathered data is that
the Kapampangan theatre has indeed a lot of remarkable contributions in Kapampangan
culture. It helped mold the Kapampangan people through their performances and perseverance.

The members of the Kapampangan theatre groups have honed their talents during their
long years of staying in their group. There is a tendency for the members of the Kapampangan
theatre groups to multi-task because there are a low number of members. Less plays produced
does not mean that they are not effective but it is one of the examples that the Kapampangan
are not that supportive of the Kapampangan theatre.

Most theatre groups produce plays twice a year only so that they have more time to
practice the play to perform well. They get their finances through solicitations because there are
some avid theatre fanatics who are willing to give support to the Kapampangan theatre. They
mostly produce the musical genre because it is more relatable and entertaining than any other
genres. They mostly perform in schools, and because of this, more young people became
interested in theatre and would eventually join these theatre groups.

The theatre groups have a hard time soliciting to some government and non-
government institutions because the Kapampangans are not that supportive of the
Kapampangan theatre groups, thatƎs also the reason why the main marketing challenge of the
Kapampangan theatre group is that the ticket sales are low, another reason is because the
Kapampangans have stereotyped the theatre that it is for the elites only. Their lack of
production staff is because it is hard to find volunteers especially when they know that they are
not getting paid. The set designs are expensive because the set needs to look realistic and
detailed since the show is live and cannot be edited by effects unlike in television and movies.

The researchers found out that the implication of the challenges in the operation in the
life of Kapampangan theatre group is that the low budget results to the poor aesthetics of the
play and most members have to spend and provide their own costumes or other for the play.
They lack in costumes and props thatƎs why most of the time, their play has the tendency to be
cancelled or rescheduled. Because of the lack of audience support, they have to pay for the
unsold tickets and rentals of the facilities or equipments that they have use, and thatƎs the
reason why theatre groups donƎt earn much in their show.

The researchers recommend the following to the Kapampangan theatre groups, for
them to produce more plays to enrich the Kapampangan culture. To the Kapampangan, to be
more aware of the theatre groups so that the efforts of these Kapampangan theatre groups in
enriching our culture will not be wasted. To the local government, to be more supportive of the
Kapampangan theatre groups and to help them in marketing their plays by allotting funds for
them to produce more shows and by launching projects that collaborate with these theatre
groups so that people will know them. To the local media, to help the theatre groups in
marketing their theatre plays by promoting the show in their station or newspaper for free or in
a cheaper price. To the academe, to make them aware that theatre is also another medium for
expression and entertainment like the movie and television. To the future researchers, this
study would shed light on theatrical production in Pampanga. Since this is considered to be the
very first attempt to study the Kapampangan theatre production, future researchers who might
get interested in the same study would take this study as their background or guide.
