TheAFNpresentedClosingtheGap:2015FederalElectionPrioritiesforFirstNationsandCanadaonSeptember2,2015.The
documentsetsoutspecificactionitemsacrosssixbroadthemes:StrengtheningFirstNations,FamiliesandCommunities;
SharingandEquitableFunding;UpholdingRights;RespectingtheEnvironment;RevitalizingIndigenousLanguages;andTruth
andReconciliation.EachfederalpartywasaskedforaformalresponsetotheprioritiesandtodatetheAFNhasreceived
responsesfromtheGreenParty,LiberalPartyandtheNewDemocraticParty.

Thisdocumentcompilescommitmentsmadebyeachpartyduringthecampaignperiodandassesseswhethertheyfulfilthe
AFNprioritiesandactionplansetoutinClosingtheGap.

Withinthefirst100daysthenewlyelectedfederalgovernmentwill:
LaunchanhonourablejointprocesstoclosetheeducationgapthroughFirstNationsControlofFirstNationsEducation.
Thisincludesimmediateandcontinuednewinvestmentsinclassroomfundingtocatchupfromyearsofunderfundingand
neglectandaguaranteedannualescalatorwhichensuresequitablefunding.Additionally,newinvestmentsarerequired
forregionaleducationorganizations,systemsdevelopment,newschoolconstruction,operationsandmaintenance.
Engageinacollaborativeprocesstodevelop,withFirstNations,aNationalActionPlantoaddresstherootcausesof
violenceexperiencedbyFirstNationswomenandgirls.
EstablishaninclusiveandcomprehensiveNationalInquiryintoMissingandMurderedIndigenousWomenandGirlswith
fullinvolvementofIndigenousorganizations,communitiesandfamilies.
Withinthefirsttwoyearsthenewlyelectedfederalgovernmentwill:
CommittoincreasedinvestmentstoensureequalityinchildwelfareservicesandprogramsforFirstNationschildrenand
families,anddevelopwithFirstNationsanequitablefundingformulaandescalator.
WorkwiththeAFNtodevelopandimplementaFirstNationsHealthPlantoclosethegapinhealthoutcomes.This
requireslongterm,sustainableandsubstantiveinvestmentsinFirstNationshealthservices,prevention,promotionand
NonInsuredHealthBenefits.
WorkwiththeAFNtoimplementtheFirstNationsMentalWellnessContinuumFrameworktosupportgreaterindividual
andcommunitywellness.
ImplementandupholdJordansPrincipletoensurethatFirstNationschildrenwillnotfacedelaysordisruptionsinhealth
services.
ProvidelongtermandsustainableinvestmentstosupportflexibleFirstNationsskillsandemploymenttrainingresponsive
toFirstNationsandindustrysneedsintheeconomy.ThiswillbedeliveredbyFirstNationsmandatedorganizations
througharenewedrelationship.
EngageinajointprocesswithFirstNationstodevelopandimplementastatutoryframeworkrecognizingFirstNations
PoliceServicesasessentialserviceswithequitablefundingandcapacitysupports.
SupportthedevelopmentandimplementationofcommunitysafetyandsecurityactionplanstoensurethatallFirst
Nationspeoplewomen,men,girls,boys,twospiritandtransgenderpeopleandothersarefreefromviolence.
