PMSD still looking
at budget options

There was a large crowd in
attendance at the special bud-
get meeting held by the Pocono
Mountain School District Wed-
nesday, March 10 in the Swift-
water Elementary Center. The
crowd consisted primarily of
district teachers and adminis-
trators concerned about the
fate of their positions within the
district as a result of this year’s
budget deliberations.
Superintendent Dr. Dwight
Pfennig addressed the con-
cerned group describing the ar-
duous task before the board of
preparing the budget as being
best broken down into three
sections—after school activi-
ties, staffing, and bonding is-
sues and debt servicing. He
stressed that the board’s goal

sentative of Lowes regarding a
request for appealing aesthet-
ics, which includes allowing for
tree growth at the site. At the
council meeting on Monday,
March 15 conditional approval

requirements for the site was
requested. Council member
Roy Gross requested Lowes to
allow for grading at the site for
future road widening. Council

Regarding the elementary
schools within the district, Pfen-
nig said, “At the present time
there are no changes expected
but the board will always make
the necessary changes due to

Schools as schools considered
for reduced program sections in

visors discussed a notice of
proposed change of polling
place by the Monroe County
Board of Elections at their
Tuesday, March 16 meeting.
The proposed change is from A
Pocono Country Place to the
Clear Run Intermediate School.
To the dismay of the supervi-
sors, the deadline to appeal
was the following day, March
17.
Tax collector Gratz Washenik
requested the supervisors to
draft a letter to the Board of
Elections requesting they not
take action and re-evaluate
their decision after the Primary
and before the General Elec-
tion. Supervisors requested ur-
gent attention be paid to this
matter and directed a letter be
drafted and hand-delivered to
the Board of Elections by the
Township’s business manager

She was a member of the Po-
cono Lake Wesleyan Church.
She worked for more than 20
years as a monitor at the Toby-
hanna Elementary Center, To-
byhanna. She also was a

many years.
She is survived by two
daughters, Hope Siglin of Cres-
co and Carol Mendel of Pocono
Pines; five grandchildren, Jeff

There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt in the gymnasium with
lots of different goodies inside them. Pictures with the Easter
Bunny will also be offered. One 5x7 costs $8 or 2 for $14 on the
spot. So, come and enjoy an exciting morning with the Easter
Bunny.

Kate is a 28 year old woman from Pocono Pines. She and her
husband, Tim, grew up, met and married in Pocono Pines. They
now have three small children- James age 7, Mychaela age 4
and Jack age 3. Kate was diagnosed in January 2010 with a
brain stem glioma, a very aggressive brain tumor. As she begins
radiation treatments at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital,
her medical and household bills are mounting. We are coming to-
gether as a community to help Kateʼs family through the great-
est challenge of their lives.

Weʼve been having a lot of
pizza lately because of our
work schedule,
and the con-
venience of Dining Out
two pizzerias
within walking distance of our
office. So it wasnʼt a surprise
that we had a hankering for
pizza on Sunday as we went
about our work along Route
940.
Papa Pizza in Pocono Sum-
mit has been running a coupon
for a second cheese pie at a
discount, and we were consid-
ering that as we pulled in.
Once inside, however, we de-
cided our eyes were too big for
our stomaches,
and went in-
stead for a
sandwich and
some slices of the pizzas in the
display case.
Ruth liked the look of the
meat-lovers pizza, $3, while I
chose a slice of Neapolitan
cheese pizza, $2. The pizzas
featured a soft, delicately
sweet very thin crust, and a
rich tomato sauce. The top-
pings on the meat-lovers slice
were bacon, sausage and
peperoni, all in small pieces,
evenly spaced and not over-
whelming. Mixed with a hint of
onion, she thought, they of-
fered flavor and texture in
every bite. Both slices were
huge.
Iʼd ordered a Meatball Parmi-
giana sandwich, $6, as my
lunch (the slice was an appe-
tizer). It was served toasted on
a hoagie roll, with four fat
homemade meatballs inside,
generously topped with

block of Deerfield Ave. in
APCP, Coolbaugh Twp. where
a man, 30, had fought with the
sister of his fiancé. On arrival,
police saw that the sister, 21,
had cuts on her face and arms.
He was arrested and taken to
police HQ for booking, then to
the Monroe County Jail to
await arraignment.
A report of a domestic dis-
pute at 11:15 a.m. on 3-14 in
the parking lot of the PennMart
on Route 196 in Coolbaugh
brought PMRPD to the scene.
A 40 y.o. Tobyhanna woman
was driving her 19 y.o. daugh-
ter when an argument began.
She pulled over, and escalated
the argument, grabbing her
daughter by the hair, hitting her
in the face, and using her fin-
gernails to scratch her. Police
arrested the woman and took
her to the county jail to await
arraignment on assault
charges.
A fight in the Mt. Pocono
WalMart store parking lot at
6:32 p.m. on 3-15 was called in
to 911, and PMRPD re-
sponded. On arrival, police

Charity Run welcomes spring

The Bust Out Charity Run will be held on Saturday, March 27
with a rain date of Saturday, April 10 . Shake off the dust, shine
her up, fill her up and let’s go for this charity event to support the
Salvation Army.
Sponsored by the Old Dogs Brotherhood, registration takes
place between 9 and 11 a.m. at the Wawa at Blakeslee Corners.
The cost is $10 per biker and $5 for a passenger.
The event features a ride through the Poconos, food and bev-
erages provided at the end of the ride. Kick stands up is at 11
a.m. sharp.
