Introduction

There are three types of learning such as Visual, Audio and Kinesthetics. It is
best to learn by combination of these three. Among the three, the highest and best way
of learning is through experiences. Those experiences can be categorize in tomtwo
such as good and bad. Any of the two, theres always a lesson at the end of it.
Students can learn by just listening in the discussion of teacher/professor inside
the classroom. He can also read textbooks for concepts, theories and principles. He can
also look for pictures, graphs and drawings. Those can serve as stepping stone for the
near future but it is not enough to fully feed, shape and build the students
competencies.
It is good that colleges and universities are offering OJT (On-the-Job Training) as
part of their curriculum. It promotes learning that cant be easily fade and will always
keep in mind. Partners between school and company is beneficial to student. Students
were given a chance and opportunity to experience the actual working environment that
they may have in the near future. Through this program, students able to find the
importance of subjecting oneself to actual situation and condition. They will expose to
training environment that is related to their field of specialization. They will encounter
people with different personalities, problems that must have to deal with, assignments
that are in higher level compare from school ones and responsibilities entrusted to their
shoulders.
Training will make students more competent one to face challenges pnce he/she
started to work for real in his/her field. This will help him/her to easily adjust and cope up
in the processes in the industry.

This program also made student-trainee an honest, optimistic and
integrated person.

b. Interpersonal
Working in industry environment does not mean that person work alone. Like in
the quotation, No man is an island.
While in training, intern able to grew his social experience. This program help him
to approach his trainers in an acceptable manner. He was able to communicate well
with his co-workers. Theres no instance wherein problem arises between him and other
staffs. This help him adjust and cope up with different persons. He was able to accept
properly the task given and endorsed to him. He is open to suggestions and critics
especially if it is for his improvement.
He learned how to offer himself or his vacant hours to other sections in the
department. He able to help his co-workers and as well as asked help from from them.
He able to share his knowledge and skills in facilitating and conducting training for
assigned task. He answered properly the questions given by selected company staffs.
He able to understand the importance of communication especially in documenting the
teams raw data. He also trained newly hired employee. He effectively introduced them
to different processes they need to understand.
Social interaction is not only limited to persons inside the inspection room but
also to other employee outside the department. He became determined and
courageous enough to ask help from others. He able to understand on how the other
department works by means of good interactions with the people involved.

c. Technical
As part of our curriculum, students need to have an actual experience on
the field of their specialization. Last July 06, 2015, mo On-the-Job-Training was started
in Arkray Industry Inc. After orientation, trainee was immediately endorsed to his
respective department which was in Quality Assurance/ Quality Control Department.

Here, there are different sections such as testing, in-process and incoming & outgoing
inspection. First, he was assigned in testing section. Here, his trainers are Maam
January and Maam Jackie and under the supervision of Maam Gaye. For training
within the said section, they demonstrated on how to conduct maintenance, calibration
and operation of necessary equipments such as pH meter, analytical balance, PU-4010,
AE-4020, AX-4030 Machines, Spectrophotometer, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, and
operation and validation of AU-4050 Machine. They also taught him how to prepare
different reagents for analysis of Urinary Test Strip performance. Those reagents
include Basic and Acidic Artificial Urine, Bilirubin, Blood, Glucose and many more. For
daily assignment, they let him observed 5S (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize and
Sustain). It also includes utilization of the said equipments above and prepared
reagents for testing of UTS product sample performance. Theres a specification for
each reagent pad for its judgment. Training in this section not only focuses on
preparation and calibration but also on documentation. After acquiring / obtaining the
necessary data, paperwork will come next. This includes pasting, writing, encoding and
printing. Theres also a need for inventory to monitor the usage of reagents/chemicals.
More importantly, it includes monitoring of parameters in the surrounding. If the
parameters (Relative Humidity and Temperature) are out of specification, then testing
team cannot conduct processes especially if in preparing reagents.
In in-process section, Maam Jessa and Maam Mary Ann are his trainers and
Maam Avic is his supervisor. They trained him on visual and dimensional inspection of
different products of the company. Like in testing, theres also range specification in
giving judgment. Here, he utilized TESA vista in clearly checking of small dimensions. I

also used Jigs, micrometer, caliper and other dimensional tools. The materials that are
checking here are bottles and caps for UTS, and container and cover for SCC
(Specimen Collecting Container). For incoming and outgoing, the left QC inspectors
guided him on their processes. Maam Mary Rose toured them in the production of SCC
and UTS. She demonstrated how to conduct inspection from raw materials, processes
then upto finished products. She introduced them to line clearance as basis for
inspection of materials, workers, machines and area of production. Theres also
specification if they will pass-or-fail such inspection. Aside from their products, she also
let him calibrated pin gauges by using micrometer. It needs to account and measure the
X- and Y- axis. Maam Lhona, Maam Karen and Maam Nezzeth taught him how to
inspect UTS visually and how to test its durability. By using torch meter, he can
measure the force needed to open such bottle. Through Shake-and-Drop, he can
measure its strength if it falls from above.
Within QC, Maam Gaye discussed how to calibrate pipettor and refrigerator.
There are two available pipettors such as reference eppendorf and multipipettor
eppendorf. In calibrating such, they need to challenge its minimum, maximum and
middle capacity of measuring volume. It is needed to determine its accuracy and
precision. Aside from that, she also instructed him how to calibrate refrigerator (both
loaded and unloaded) through temperature mapping. In doing so, she let him used data
loggers, thermorecorder and reference thermometer to record and monitor data for the
set temperature vs. time. Maam Shernalyn guided him how to set data loggers and how
to download the record data from them. Maam Jan demonstrated how to download
data from thermorecorder. Maam Shiela discussed how to operate AU-4050 Machine.

Then after few days, she asked to test sample strips which will be use for validation of
the said machine and to get correlation. He was the one who they assigned for that
task.
They also introduced us to Work Instruction and TEIAN. In every process, theres
a need for Work Instruction. After training for operation of AU-4050 Machine,
temperature mapping and reagent preparation, they assigned him to produce work
instruction for those that doesnt have. After producing and finalizing work instruction,
the next step is to ask an approval from superiors. The superiors will give comment for
revision and improvement. After that, dissemination of information will come next. He
conducted training for that to responsible persons such as QC inspectors and selected
staffs. For teian, he utilized the available materials in QC to produce containers of data
loggers and Go, No go Jigs. He also teian the produced Work Instruction.
For the late part of my training, they guided, trained and endorsed the different
processes to newly hired QC inspectors. He demonstrated them how to calibrate, use
and operate different equipments, how to prepare solutions, how to properly
documented raw data and how to analyze them. For effective training, he let them
observe, then have their hands-on and raised questions.

d. Program Specific
The program requires student to undergo internship with the duration of 600
hours. The intern was assigned in one department which is in Quality Assurance/Quality
Control Department. The manager of the said department divided the OJT hours in
different sections. The supervisor introduced him in the whole team and arranged his
schedule among those sections. The supervisor and trainers gave him tasks that will
challenge his skills and ability. In performing such task, it is very helpful to rely on
reading the printed step-by-step procedures, listening to trainers discussion and

explanation, taking notes of every single information and observing how they execute
the same task.
If ever theres free time, the trainees were given a chance to expose in the
production area of the company. By that, the students able to observed and found the
set-up in producing company products. Students were exposed to industry set-up and
thus became knowledgeable and competent which made them grow personally and
professionally.

Training Assessment in Relation to:

a. Student Outcomes

At the end of the program, the student acquired training experience that he
needed and able to practiced his professionalism. Within 600 hours, the student fully
understand the concepts, principles and theories of some areas tackled in textbooks
and in class discussion. He also found the application of what he verbally learned in
school grounds.
Being trained in an environment where he can practice his field of specialization,
he obtained professional maturity. He became knowledgeable enough to the actual
working environment. He developed his competencies as a future chemical engineer.
By meansof exposure to industry set-up, the student able to comprehend the
importance of learning experience. Through this, the trainee learned the whole process,
connection and importance of different departments. He learned several equipments
and how they calibrated, maintained and operated those. The training also improved the
basic knowledge of student in some areas related to his field. It also practiced
responsibility and integrity. With this, the student also practiced safety. He able to
participate actively in the quality analyses of products, process improvement, and
inspection of GMP rules and regulations.

It became helpful to develop the student values. He became more creative,

innovative priactive , sincere, high-spirited, insightful, responsive and efficient,
respectful, economical, modest and open-minded, deligent and spare no effort,
determined and courageous, have advanced and concrete goals, aspire to excellence
and perfection, and do what is best for the whole everyday everywhere all the time.
b. Engineering Program
On-the-Job Training creates greater impact in gaining knowledge and actual
experience in working environment. It became very helpful to students and serve as
stepping stone. By means of OJT, students able to find the actual application of
engineering principles, theories and concepts. It exposes students to different tasks
where engineering technicalities are present. This program supplies the knowledge that
is hard to impart and what is lack from school.
OJT helps schools to produce a competent men and women. It also open the
students mind to the possible challenges and instances that they may encounter after
graduation. It also made them cofident enough to face the real wide world of
engineering.
