quarter
gave
the
Kohler/Sheboygan
Lutheran/Sheboygan Christian football team a
win over Howards Grove, guaranteeing the

Oct. 10th & 11th, 17th & 18th

Bombers a slot in the playoffs.

This is the first time since 1999 that Kohler
football players will compete in the state playoffs.

Autumn Celebration

This coming Friday, KLC plays its last regular season game, taking on Manitowoc
Lutheran at home for Senior Night. Kickoff is
at 7:00 p.m.

10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The air will be crisp

and the cider hot.

There is nothing like autumn at the Wade House.

Enjoy hot cider in the stagecoach hotel, and take a two mile open air horse-drawn
wagon ride. Well also be carving pumpkins and turnips and listening to scary
(but family friendly) stories in the candlelit Herring Sawmill.

Kohler teens take up

challenge to share
compassion
Challenge Day program
promotes mutual respect and
acceptance in schools and
communities
By Christine Voice
For one out of four teens in the
United States, extreme stress is
a part of their school year experience, according to a study by the
American Psychological Association. Vowing to have a more caring
experience for teens, Kohler High
School brought the acclaimed daylong Challenge Day to the school
on September 28 and 29, sponsored by the United Way. At Challenge Day, Kohler High students,
teachers, support staff, administrators, school board, leaders of the
community and school supporters
were challenged to step out of
their comfort zones, open their
hearts, and build connections with
others. Trained Challenge Day facilitators guided participants
through a carefully-designed series of games, activities, and trustbuilding exercises to break down
the walls of separation and create
new levels of empathy and respect.
Our students are high achievers

with big dreams; they strive to

meet the expectations of their families, teachers, friends, and community. We are incredibly proud of
their personal efforts and also
aware they are not immune from
stress that can lead to anxiety, depression and disengagement, said
school counselor, Christine Voice.
Were changing that by showing
them they are not alone in their
struggles; we want to send the
message that their peers and adults
in their lives care about them and
will support them."
Over 200 teens and 45 adult volunteers experienced the hands-on
workshop promoting understanding, acceptance, and love. Kohler
High School is partnering with
Mental Health America of Sheboygan County to offer mini-sessions throughout the year for
students to gain tools regarding
time management, stress management, and test anxiety.

October 17

Lakeland College welcomed

120 Kohler High School freshmen
and sophomores to campus Tuesday for a fast-paced, half-day
learning experience.
The students visited six educational stations, then interacted with
two successful Lakeland graduates
and ate lunch before returning to
Kohler.
Each student spent 10-15 minutes at stations about business, science and computer science

programs, performing arts, residence life and athletics.

Highlights of the tour included
Lakeland student Devin Equitz
showcasing one of Lakelands two
robots and Lakeland Association
Professor of Theatre and Speech
Charlie Krebs taking the Kohler
students on the above-stage catwalk, then later demonstrating the
art of a choreographed sword
fight.
Just before lunch, the students

met Lakeland graduates Caitlyn

Brotz, the founder and CEO of
Oliv 426 natural beauty and skin
care products, and Shawn Alfred,
the assistant comptroller and auditor for Manitowoc County. The
two graduates shared stories about
how Lakeland provided a challenging yet nurturing environment
where they were able to thrive and
reach their potential.

The Wisconsin Department of

Justice will coordinate a Prescription Drug Take Back initiative on
Saturday, October 17, 2015 with
municipalities and law enforcement statewide.
This effort will continue to
bring focus to the issue of prescription opiate abuse highlighted
by the Wisconsin Department of
Justices Dose of Reality campaign to prevent prescription
painkiller abuse. The goal of the
Take Back Day is to provide a
safe, convenient and responsible
means of disposal, while also educating the community about the
potential for abuse of these medications.
With the opiate epidemic devastating families and communities
across our state, we must work together to remove unused prescription painkillers from circulation.
They need to be collected and destroyed, Wisconsin Attorney
General Brad Schimel said. This
program will also reduce the environmental hazards associated with
the improper disposal of unused
prescription drugs.
A drop-off receptacle is located
in the front lobby of the Kohler
Police Department. St. Nicholas
Hospital is also serving as a drop
off location for the Sheboygan
area.
Unused or expired medicine
should never be flushed or poured
down the drain. Water reclamation
facilities are not designed to remove all of them and trace
amounts of pharmaceuticals are
showing up in rivers and lakes
around the world.

GUIDELINES:
All waste pharmaceuticals must
be generated by a household no
businesses are allowed.
Bring: Prescription (controlled
and non-controlled) and over-thecounter medications, ointments,
patches, non-aerosol sprays,
creams, vials and pet medications.
Do Not Bring: Illegal drugs,
needles/sharps, inhalers, aerosol
cans, bio-hazardous materials
(anything containing a bodily fluid
or blood), personal care products
(shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreen), household hazardous
waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas),
mercury thermometers.
Participants may dispose of
solid, non-liquid medication(s) by
removing the medication from its
container and disposing of it directly into a disposal box or into a
clear sealable plastic bag. Plastic
pill containers should not be collected. Blister packages are acceptable without the medications
being removed.
Liquids will be accepted during
this initiative. However, the liquids, creams and sprays must be in
their original packaging and
evenly distributed within the
boxes of collected solid prescription medications. Liquids without
the original packaging will not be
accepted.
Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not
a part of this initiative and should
not be placed in collection containers.

KOHLER Original Recipe Chocolates brings back special Holiday collection

Back by popular demand,
KOHLER Original Recipe Chocolates is delighted to announce its line
of Holiday Caramels, offered in four
varieties Sea Salt Caramel, Golden
Caramel, Ginger Snap Caramel and
Almond Green Caramel will be
available again this season. Each
decadent flavor, made from
KOHLER Original Recipe Chocolates caramel covered in a creamy
chocolate shell, is inspired by the
nostalgic winter traditions, tastes and
smells of Wisconsin.
After being a great success last
year, we felt it was only natural to

bring back our line of Holiday

Caramels this year, said KOHLER
Original Recipe Chocolates Chocolatier, Anette Righi DeFendi.
These recipes have personal significance to me as they were inspired by my grandparents and
parents who enjoyed Amaretto
liquor cocktails paired with our
familys homemade Italian Pizzelle
waffle cookies, which are represented
in the Almond Green Caramels.
Each artistic chocolate is airbrushed with seasonal hues of silver,
gold, red and green creating a festive

shimmering sheen to mimic the flow

of poured caramel.
Silver: Sea Salt Caramel is a dark
smoky caramel infused with a light
taste of sea salt

Gold: Traditional and savory

Golden Caramel with a hint of
brown sugar
Red: Ginger Snap Caramel in a
dark chocolate shell filled full of
soft notes of molasses to resemble
a gingerbread cookie
Green: Almond Green Caramel
infused with a striking almond flavor
All four varieties are offered in
ready-to-gift packaging adorned with
delicate, signature hand-tied bows
making them a perfect gift for both
friends and family. The Holiday

Caramels are offered as four-piece

($9.99), nine-piece ($18.99) and 32piece ($59.99) variety packages or as
nine-piece packages of each individual flavor.
Launching during the 15th anniversary of Kohler Food & Wine Experience in Kohler, the holiday caramels
will be available Oct 22 through the
holiday season at
KohlerChocolates.com, at Craverie
Chocolatier Caf at The Shops at
Woodlake Kohler and specialty grocery stores throughout the United
States.
