Books and books galore!

ZANE CLARK/The Sun

Oct. 15 marked the start of The Camden County Librarys fall book sale at its Voorhees branch. Lasting through Oct. 17, the three-day
sale offered 50,000 books, CDs, DVDs, videos and books-on-tape as the library looked to achieve a new sales record. This past spring,
the library surpassed its old two-day record by collecting almost $18,000.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced

the final version of a $14 million
plan to replace the soil on 33 residential properties in Voorhees
and Gibbsboro that have been
contaminated with lead and arsenic due to the former SherwinWilliams paint manufacturing
plant in Gibbsboro.
EPA officials said the plan involves excavating soil at the properties and disposing of it at facilities licensed to handle such environmentally harmful waste materials, after which the excavated
areas would be refilled with clean
soil, with vegetation replanted if
necessary.
The soil contamination on the
properties is a result of waterways and lands being affected by
uncontrolled releases from the
former Sherwin-Williams plant,
which operated from the mid
1800s until closing in the late
1970s.
As the properties fall within

Sale of mill animals banned

By ZANE CLARK
The Sun
Voorhees has some new rules
for pet stores in town regarding
the dogs and cats they can and
cannot sell.

At its Oct. 13 meeting,

Voorhees Township Committee
adopted an ordinance that bans
the sale of dogs and cats from pet
shops within Voorhees where the
animals have not been obtained
from an animal rescue organization or animal care facility.
To justify the ban, the ordinance cites statistics from The
Humane Society of the United
States, which estimates that
10,000 puppy mills produce
more than 2.4 million puppies a
year across the nation, and that
many of the dogs and cats for sale
at pet shops come from such
mill establishments.
These mills are defined as establishments that breed kittens
and puppies for sale on an intensive basis and in conditions regarded as inhumane.
The ordinance outlines documented conditions at these facilities, such as over-breeding, inbreeding, little to no veterinary
care, lack of proper food, water
and shelter, little to no socialization and inadequate space and exercise.
Also cited with the ordinance
is information from a 2014 state
Department of Health Animal In-

take and Disposition survey,

which said more than 20,000 dogs
and cats are euthanized in animal
shelters in the state annually,
with almost 1,500 of those incidents taking place in Camden
County.
In addition to pet shops only
being allowed to sell dogs and cats
from animal care facilities and
rescue organizations, pet shops
are also prohibited from offering
dogs or cats younger than 8 weeks
old. The ordinance also outlines
the belief that restricting the retail sale of puppies and kittens to
those that come from rescue organizations, shelters and hobby
breeders will likely reduce pet
overpopulation and the burden
on agencies funded by local taxpayers.
Also noted in the ordinance are
independent pet shops and large
retail chain operators across the
country that have a profitable
business model focused on the
sale of pet services and supplies
rather than the sale of the animals themselves.

oting is one of the inalienable

rights that our forefathers
fought so fervently for so
many years ago. Many would say that
voting is one of the most important inalienable rights that we have as Americans, if not the most important inalienable right.
Colonial Americans fought for independence in the 1700s based on the rallying cry of no taxation without representation, and they wanted the
right to choose their own representation.
Over the following 200 years, three
major pieces of legislation extended
or ensured voting rights:

Constitution gave voting rights to nonwhite males;

The Nineteenth Amendment gave
women the right to vote;
And The Voting Rights Act of 1965
prevented discrimination in voting.
A lot of time and effort were spent,
and blood was shed, to give all citizens
of the United States 18 years of age
and older the right to vote.
And now, it is up to you to take ad-

vantage of that right at the polls for

the General Election next Tuesday,

In next weeks Sun, you will find information on exactly what you are voting for at the polls, when the polls are
open and details on every polling location in town.
If you have further questions about
the election, you can always find information on the countys website or call

Michelle Nocito, all while keeping her
cheery disposition.
I had the pleasure of meeting Michelle
two years ago at the school carnival that
she was co-chairing.
Not only did she volunteer her time for
this event, but she also serves as the parent/faculty association president for the
school.
Later, our daughters became great
friends ("Mrs. Michelle a wonderful
singer," my daughter always says) and as
I've gotten to know her, one thing is for
sure, she is always there when you need
her.
Michelle is well known in other organizations as a very hard worker and loves to
see others happy and at their best.
She always makes time for anyone who

Committee needs more

diversity than same party
Ive read Ravitz and Nocito campaign
ads and Meet the Candidates responses.
I now seriously doubt their qualifications.
With their repeated emphasis on
Voorhees schools, I ask: Why arent they
running for school board?
The most important tasks committee
has are setting our township budget/taxes,
administrating our government and then
assisting our school boards.
Ravitz and Nocito show a serious lack of
understanding and experience in priority.
Nocito uses the standard Democrats
trick of citing only one years tax rate (and

not the dollar amount of taxes we actually

pay) ignoring the other two years of taxes
in a committee persons three-year term.
She didnt tell you that in the official
2015 Voorhees budget (Sheet 3), the amount
of taxes that the Democrats took from you
was another record high of $18,718,000.
The dirty secret is Democrats now borrow money at a record high amount to assist their record high spending (2015 Budget Sheet 3a) of $27,822,335.
Democrats in their 2015 budget (Sheet
27) spent $3,654,000 (about $1 of every $5
collected in taxes) just paying off their
record high debt forced on Voorhees taxpayers.
Every debt repayment dollar is one less
dollar of real tax relief or for needed services.

Have Democrats ever honestly

Democrats big money givers

Im fed up with years of total

Vote for Michelle Nocito

for committee seat
I would like to share the most
important reason why I would
vote for Michelle Nocito, and that
is community.
The definition of community is
a group of people living in the
same place or having a particular
characteristic in common. A feeling of fellowship with others, a
result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals.
I met Michelle three years ago
at our elementary school.
We very quickly became
friends and Hamilton PFA copresident partners.
I learned very quickly that
Michelle had passion about any

and all activities that she signed

up for.
Over the years, I came to learn
that Michelle had a special quality that I particularly love, and
that is bringing people together.
Whether she is at school, the soccer field, Connelly Park or a town
event, she is always rallying people together like a team. I love
that about her.
Michelle is a hard-working
mother, a dedicated wife, a businesswoman, a soccer coach, a soccer mom, a PFA president and
more! She gets it.
Michelle understands what the
people of Voorhees want. She also
wants to give them what they deserve, which are excellent
schools, stable taxes, a clean town
and a wonderful community!
Lastly, on a personal level, in
the past three years, she has
taught me that I can achieve anything that I set my mind to.
She has coached me as a new
runner over the past year where I
went from running zero miles to
13.
For a non-athletic person like
me, it wasnt easy.
She always says to me you can
do anything that you set your
mind to.
She believed in me many times
when I didnt believe in myself.
One time when I could barely
finish a race, she took my arm
and said I will get you across
that finish line and you will finish
strong.
I did.
She is a true leader.
I encourage you to vote for her
and her wonderful running mate,
Jason Ravitz, on Nov. 3.
You will not be disappointed.
What you see is what you ge,t
and, trust me, you havent seen
anything yet.
Kelly Cosenza

Vote for Dave Adamson,

Dr. Heidi Handler
As a resident of Voorhees, I feel
very strongly that the Voorhees
Township Committee should
have more diversified members
and new opinions so that better
decisions can be made.
Id like to recommend Dave
Adamson whose running mate is
Dr. Heidi Handler.

Daves children have gone

through the Voorhees Township
school system and he has firsthand knowledge of the unique
problems of this township. Dave
was also a candidate in 2014, endorsed by current committeeman
Mike Friedman, and over the last
two years, he has met with thousands of Voorhees residents, an
experience that makes him qualified to address the concerns of
Voorhees voters.
I believe Dave will be a fresh
voice on the Township Committee, along with Heidi Handler and
Committeeman Mike Friedman,
to build a better Voorhees for us
all.
Chuck Hague

Nocito, Ravitz would be

good representatives
What makes a good committee
person? First of all, it takes a sincere willingness to give of ones
time for the betterment of their
community. That is saying something. Very few people are willing
to give what spare, little time they
have.
They could be spending time
with their families or at work.
Very few choose to spend that
time building a better and safer
community for others. It says a
lot for the person who is willing to
put in the long hours and take the
criticism that sometimes comes
with making tough governmental
decisions.
Very few people are willing to
commit to such an endeavor.
Both Michelle and Jason are
the types of people who think volunteering their time to better
their community is worth it and
willing to meet those challenges
head on, understanding there
may be controversy from time to
time, but willing to lead and do
the hard work necessary to move
Voorhees forward.
Both Jason and Michelle understand how to manage a budget
and how to balance smart spending with necessary reductions.
Please join me in supporting
two dedicated Voorhees residents
who are willing to take on those
challenges and help to continue to
make Voorhees a great place to
live and work.
Mario DiNatale

Heidi Handler has

passion, commitment
Regarding the upcoming local
election, I would like ask my fellow citizens of Voorhees to vote
for my friend Dr./lawyer Heidi
Handler. She is a real life Doogie
Howser, having gone to the University of Chicago at the age of
15.
Her passion and commitment
to success drove her to complete
both a law degree and a medical
degree, an amazing accomplishment.
When she is not working as a
full-time urgent care doctor, she is
volunteering her time to improve
our community through involvement in her synagogue, charity
work with a dog rescue, or educational improvement through the
New Jersey Association for Gifted and Talented students.
That drive and compassion are
exactly what we need in the
Voorhees Committee to lead us in
a new direction and reverse the
out-of-control property taxes and
government waste.
Her innovative ideas for generating revenue, attracting new
businesses and eliminating unnecessary expenses will ensure
that Voorhees can continue to
provide the world-class education
institutions that attract families
to our town, while improving
services and making it more affordable for seniors and emptynesters to remain a vibrant part
of our community.
It is time for Voorhees to leave
behind the failed policies of the
last decade.
Dr. Heidi Handler and her running mate Dave Adamson are the
leaders who will guide the way.
Steve Marks

Michelle Nocito
definitely has my vote
To Voorhees Township: As a
fellow resident of Voorhees
Township, I just wanted to let you
know why Michelle Nocito will
definitely have my vote for
Voorhees Township Committee.
Michelle is the epitome of
strength and determination. She
did not have things handed to her
in life. She went out and worked
for everything she has. She is ca-

pable of achieving anything she

desires and has incredible determination and focus.
What better qualities can
Voorhees residents ask for in a
candidate?
I have watched her inspire
large numbers of women in
Voorhees, including myself. I recently fell upon difficult times,
and her friendship and encouragement never wavered.
She helped me believe in myself when I wanted to give up,
having to endure a serious medical condition and surgery.
After my surgery, Michelle convinced me to run a 15k race a
mere six weeks later. I was not
able to run the entire time, but
Michelle never left my side, providing positive reinforcement
every step of the way.
I will never forget her heartfelt
support.
I truly do believe that there is
no one in our community with
more compassion and intelligence or better qualified to represent Voorhees Township as a
committeewoman.
She is exactly what we need,
because she will fight for what is
right with a determination that is
unparalleled. Michelle Nocito
will make an immediate, positive
impact to our community.
Michelle will win and will continue to inspire people all around
her. Please vote for Jason Ravitz
and Michelle Nocito on Nov. 3.

Change needs to happen

to committee
As a life-long resident of our
town I feel I can speak of the
change that needs to happen.
For nearly 15 years, the longtime controlling majority has
controlled this town.
In this years election campaign, the longtime controlling
majoritys candidates claim in
their political ads they really
want change, but do they?
For a long time, the controlling
majority has claimed to be seeking to lower taxes. If that is what
they have sought, then why is the
amount raised in taxes by the
town gone up almost every year? I

Mayor supports Nocito,

Ravitz for committee
I write this letter in support of
my dear friends, Jason Ravitz and
Michelle Nocito, for Voorhees
Township Committee.
Jason and Michelle are longtime residents of Voorhees who
have immersed themselves into
our community. Jason is a member of the JCC Board of Directors
and Ravitz Family Foundation.
He is also vice-chair of the JCC
Annual Sports Awards Fundraiser and a member of the Alicia
Rose Victorious Foundation Advisory Board. Michelle is the HPFA
co-president of E.T. Hamilton
School and president of the
Voorhees Cultural and Diversity
Foundation. She is also a volunteer in the Voorhees Soccer Association.
Both have extensive business
backgrounds, which are impor-

tant in helping craft our municipal budget. Jason is a graduate of

Emory University and is vice
president of retail operations for
the Ravitz Family ShopRites.
Michelle is a graduate of Drexel
University where she also earned
her masters in business administration.
She is a financial advisor and
managing director for Amerprise
Financial.
Jason and Michelle have also
volunteered their time to our
local government as members of
the Voorhees Township Planning

Writer: Son is perfect fit

for committee seat
My name is Steve Ravitz and
my son Jason is running for
Voorhees Township Committee. I
have been running a family business in South Jersey since 1968,
which has grown into the Ravitz
Family Shop Rites and Price Rite
of Camden. I wanted to take this
opportunity to give the voters an
insight as to the man my son
Jason has become. I wanted to let
the voters know the essence of
my son in ways in which only a
father can.
Jason has always wanted to
hold elected office and serve his
community.
Jason is a man of good character. Throughout his life, he has
been willing to make tough decisions and has never hid from
doing what is right. Jason is always consistent, keeps his promises and is someone who can be
counted on.
I have always told Jason that
life will give you the opportunity
to learn as you grow and that it is
not enough to simply think like a
man, but you must act like one,
especially during difficult times.
For it is in difficult times that

your true character shines.

As I have watched Jason help
grow our business, I have learned
firsthand that he is a great listener, thoughtful before making decisions, and has a tremendous work
ethic and business acumen that
drives him to meet his goals no
matter what the obstacle.
In addition to his strong work
ethic, Jason and his two brothers
built our small family foundation
into a non-profit entity known as
the Ravitz Family Foundation
which has been able to help thousands of people in need in South
Jersey. Jasons commitment to
our family business and to his
community are nothing short of
amazing.
Lastly, and most importantly,
Jason is a wonderful, loving and
nurturing father to his son, Andrew, and his daughter, Jessie. It
brings a huge smile to my face
when I see Jason taking care of
his children and watching the
process of him raising these incredible children.
I am incredibly proud of my
eldest son, as any father would be.
Jason is a man whom Voorhees
residents will be proud of as well.

firsthand the gridlock in Washington, D.C.
When I decided to not seek reelection, I was quoted saying: my
frustrations with the ways of
Washington have been well-documented, misplaced priorities and
lack of focus on constituent needs
have frustrated many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle.
Believe it or not, there are members of Congress who actually
want to govern and get the peoples business done. Unfortunately, there are many with agendas
and strategies that serve to advance their own interests and expand their donor base.
I have known Jason Ravitz for
many years. Jason and his family
run the successful Ravitz Family
Shop Rites, and we have worked
closely together in many charitable endeavors.

Jason has sought my counsel

in deciding to seek election to the
Voorhees Township Committee.
I have also met his running
mate, Michelle Nocito.
Jason and Michelle are the
type of leaders that I know will
place the best interest of
Voorhees residents over partisan
politics and wasteful posturing.
They are doers, they want to
govern and get stuff done and are
not running to advance their own
personal agenda.
I know it is rare for a Republican to endorse Democrat candidates, but electing good people
who are in it for the right reasons
is what it is about.
I do know that Jason and
Michelle are the type of bi-partisan can do / will do individuals
that Voorhees Township Committee would benefit greatly from.
I am asking all my Voorhees
friends, regardless of political affiliation, to support Jason and
Michelle, who I know will do a
great job on Township Committee
and do everything they can to
help improve the quality of life in
Voorhees Township. Please exercise your right to vote on Election
Day, Nov. 3.

For the past several years, I
have served our community and
volunteered my time in the area
of youth sports and recreation. I
became involved because, like
you, I believe that a positive experience with youth sports and athletics is critical to a childs overall
development.
Our town has grown dramatically over the past few years, in-

improved recreational facilities
for baseball, youth soccer, football, softball, lacrosse and basketball. Our local government officials have always been there, providing our sports organizations
with the assistance they need to

of which we all can be proud.
This year, Jason Ravitz and
Michelle Nocito are running for
Voorhees Township Committee.
Both have been extremely active
in our sports community as
coaches.
During the past several years,
our local governing body has significantly added to our recreational inventory and field improvement.
They have achieved much, including substantial improvement
to a playground at Connolly Park
on Centennial Boulevard, the site
of our Summer Series, which was
purchased through a Green Acres
grant; improvements at Lions
Lake Softball Complex and Maiaroto Soccer Complex, including
the erection of new and improved
field lighting; field turf installed
at Giangiulio Football Field; field
turf installed at Rabinowitz

a new community playground
with a $25,000 grant; and installed
new bocce courts at Kirkwood

with another $25,000 grant.

MEET THE

CANDIDATES
Every week, The Sun will ask the candidates in the Nov. 3 election
for Voorhees Committee seats to respond to questions pertinent to local
issues. You can find responses online at www.voorheessun.com.
This weeks question: 1.) Make your final pitch.
Why should you be elected to Township Committee?
As a practicing physician, a lawyer and,
first and foremost, a mother, I have seen
and done many important things in my
personal and professional life, but before
this year I had never even considered the
idea of running for local office. However,
when Dave and a group of concerned
Voorhees taxpayers reached out to me and
asked me to run, I quickly said yes. It has
always been my passion to serve and to do
the right thing for the community I love.
Entering this race for Voorhees Township
Committee was a logical extension of that
desire, and I am so glad I answered the call.
When elected, Dave Adamson and I will
fight for every single Voorhees taxpayer to
make sure that your government works for
you in the most transparent, efficient and
responsive way possible. I have learned
that few people in Voorhees actually know
how their tax dollars are spent. They have

to be balanced. One-party control fails
everywhere it persists, and Voorhees cannot afford another year of an unresponsive

balance will return to the Township Committee.

My running mate, Jason Ravitz, and I

recognize and appreciate that being elected to Township Committee is a service to
all residents, and not just those who
share our views or who voted for us. Public office is a service to the entire community; Jason and I have the business backgrounds and skill sets to work cooperatively with others to continue to move
our township forward. Sometimes people
seek office because they are obsessed
with a single issue. Jason and I recognize
that once the election is over, our responsibility is to work successfully through
every challenge that is presented during
our term. We understand that elected officials are charged with the responsibility to plan and deliver a community experience that balances the economic inter-

MEET THE

CANDIDATES
My running mate, Michelle Nocito,
and I are running as Democrats for the
two open seats on Voorhees Township
Committee. The centerpiece of our campaign is to hold the line on taxes and reduce the size of government without a reduction in services that Voorhees residents expect and deserve.
Michelle and I are businesspersons
and not politicians. I will bring my extensive private sector experience in running
a family business, and Michelle will
bring her expertise as a financial advisor
to help manage the township budget, find
innovative ways to cut costs through
shared service agreements, deliver municipal services more efficiently to our
residents
and
help

sure
that Voorhees tax dollars stay in
Voorhees.
As parents of Voorhees school children, we are both dedicated to partnering
with the Voorhees school districts to
make sure all children get the best possible education, class sizes are kept at a
minimum and there will continue to be a
police officer in each school to protect

our children and faculty.

the practical experience in the business
world that Michelle and I have gained
throughout our years of hard work in the
private sector.
Michelle and I can help bring in commercial ratables to relieve the property
tax burden on our residents. We believe
that we are the best qualified candidates
in this years election based upon business background, community involvement and personal character.
We have the time and energy to devote
ourselves to make sure Voorhees Township government is operating efficiently
and residents are being heard. With your
help on election day, both Michelle and I
can keep Voorhees moving in the right direction and make our town and your
town the best it can be.

Since 2014, I have met with thousands

of Voorhees residents while running for

this, there is a good chance that I stopped
by your door in hopes of speaking with
you and your family about the issues that
matter most to you.

EPA sets sights on 2018 for Kirkwood Lake cleanup plan

EPA
Continued from page 1
Sherwin-Williams/Hilliards
Creek Superfund site, Superfund
laws dictate the plan will be funded entirely by Sherwin-Williams

and conducted under EPA supervision.

The EPA originally proposed
the plan to the public at a June
meeting in Gibbsboro, during
which EPA Remedial Project
Manager Ray Klimcsak said
Sherwin-Williams had come to
the table during the process.

At that June meeting and

through Aug. 1, Voorhees and
Gibbsboro residents were able to
ask questions of EPA officials, as
well as comment on the plan and
make suggestions.
Comments and concerns from
the public were then addressed
and released in the final version

of the EPAs plan.

The EPA now moves on to a
phase known as remedial design, which is described on the
EPAs website as the phase during
which the technical specifications for cleanup remedies and
technologies are designed.
EPA officials did not have a

date for when the actual cleanup

process would begin, although at
the June meeting, Klimcsak said
he believed it was a reasonable
estimate that shovels could be in
the ground within a year-and-ahalf to two years, with the
process taking about three years
to complete.
EPA officials said the agency
would coordinate with property
owners to ensure work is done
with minimal disruption.
As detailed by EPA Regional
Administrator Judith Enck, exposure to lead for children can result in reading and learning disabilities, reduced attention spans,
I.Q. deficiencies, hyperactivity,
impaired hearing and behavioral
problems. Exposure to lead can
also harm pregnant women, fetuses and members of the general
population, as well as the environment as a whole.
Lead is a potent toxic metal
that can cause damage to a childs
ability to learn and a range of
other health problems, Enck
said. It is imperative that the
toxic contamination at this site
and at homes is addressed to protect peoples health.
Within the EPAs plan are also
statements from EPA officials
noting that evaluations have indicated there is a very low potential for flooding events to redeposit contaminated sediments on
residential properties.
Those evaluations factored
into to the final decision of conducting remediation of residential properties before addressing
the upstream sources or the adjacent water bodies.
For those in Voorhees concerned about the health of Kirkwood Lake as a whole, repeated
statements from EPA officials
have marked sometime in 2018 as
still the most likely time for when
the EPA would decide on what
remedy would be used to remediate the lake, with the actual
cleanup to follow in the years
after that.

Operation SAL provides

addiction treatment
By Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr.
Camden County
will provide critical
treatment services
to those battling the
grip of opiate and
heroin addiction.
Operation SAL is a
progressive
new
program that will
provide detoxification and treatment
services for anyone that has survived an overdose.
In 2014 the Freeholder Board
moved forward with a proactive
committee made up of law enforcement, community advocates,
service providers and members of
the health department to combat
the heroin epidemic. After more
than a year of advocating, educating and coordinating we are now
introducing a critical program to
our community- treatment. This
initiative is the first step in an organized effort to pull people away
from the deadly grip of opiates
and get them back on their feet.
The goal of the program is to initiate a warm hand off to outpatient detox followed by intensive
outpatient treatment at Delaware
Valley Medical in Pennsauken.
There they will be treated on an
outpatient basis until a bed opens
at a facility or they can be managed at the level of care determined by their case manager.
This innovative program is being
coordinated by the Camden
County Addiction Awareness Task
Force, who has put a number of
educational and preventive initiatives into service after it was commissioned in May 2014. Some of
those programs include Naloxone
training, expanding prescription
drop boxes throughout the county
and a highly recognizable public
service campaign that has been
emblazoned on billboards and
county vehicles- HEROIN. PILLS.
IT ALL KILLSwhat you thought

was miles away is

right in your backyard.
Operation SAL is
named after Sal
Marchese,
who
passed away in 2010,
and is the son of
task force member
Patty DiRenzo. SAL
is also an acronym
for save-a-life. DiRenzo has been a
statewide advocate and an outstanding resource on the issue of
heroin and opiate addiction. In
2013, she worked with Gov. Chris
Christie to pass the Overdose Prevention Act.
We identified the individual entities that would be on point to make
an intervention and provide an alternative to someone who was
treated for an overdose. They were
best situated to make a warm
hand off to offer detox and treatment services. Furthermore, they
are providing transportation in
cases that call for it and are a key
component to Operation SAL.
Kennedy Health, Virtua Health
System, Cooper University Health
Care, and Our Lady of Lourdes
Medical Center all are participating in the program. The Camden
County Health Department is
working with the health care
providers now to train staff and
Operation SAL should be active in
the next month.

and Michelle are committed to
the pursuit of additional grants
to improve our recreational areas
and facilities.
I believe the best chance we
have of continuing to move
Voorhees Townships recreation
program forward is to support
the candidacy of Jason Ravitz
and Michelle Nocito for Voorhees
Township Committee. If your
child is active in sports in our
community, I would appreciate
your support for Jason and
Michelle on Election Day Nov. 3.
Adam Scholnick

Taliaferro supports
Ravitz and Nocito
I am proud to support and endorse Jason Ravitz and Michelle
Nocito in this years election for
Township Committee.
Jason and Michelle both possess a business mentality that
will serve Voorhees very well.
As someone who knows firsthand about overcoming difficult
obstacles, I truly admire the leadership and business skills of
Jason and Michelle.
Both candidates have managed
and run successful businesses,
Jason as the owner of Shop Rite
Supermarkets and Michelle as
managing director of Ameriprise
Financial Services.
They each have guided their respective businesses through difficult economic periods.
Both are personal friends, and I
can assure you they are truly dedicated to ensuring long-term tax
stability and limiting spending
within municipal government, so
the residents of Voorhees may
continue to receive outstanding
government services at the lowest
possible cost.
Please join me in supporting
Jason Ravitz and Michelle Nocito
for Voorhees Township Committee on Election Day, Nov. 3.

Halloween in the Park is Sunday, Oct. 25

Halloween in the Park will be
on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 1 p.m. to 4
p.m. at Connolly Park. All are invited to don a costume and enjoy
the fun-filled event that has become a Voorhees tradition. Take
an old-fashioned hayride or pick
from the Voorhees Business Associations Pumpkin Patch. Candy
and refreshments will be plentiful
for all in attendance.
Activities will also include a
Halloween
costume
parade,
pumpkin painting and decorating, balloon artists, childrens
rides, a Halloween-themed magic
show and face painting. The
Voorhees Township Police Department will be providing Halloween safety tips and conducting
a Kids I.D. Card registration.
The event is free and sponsored
by the South Jersey Federal Credit Union, the Voorhees Business
Association, Republic Bank, The
Wire
newspaper
and
The
Voorhees Sun newspaper.
For more information, visit
www.voorheesnj.com or call (856)

882-7469 (SHOW).
The hours for trick or treating in Voorhees are 2 p.m. to 8
p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Also, an
8 p.m. curfew will be in effect the
evenings of Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 for
those under the age of 18.
While Halloween is a time for
fun for children and adults alike,
the National Safety Council offers
some safety tips.
Motorists should watch for
children walking on roadways,
curbs or darting out between
parked cars. Enter and exit driveways very carefully.
Parents should accompany
any children under the age of 12.
A travel route should be established in familiar areas. Children
should stop only at houses or
apartments that are well-lit and
should never enter a strangers
home. Establish a return time.
Youngsters should not eat any
treats until they return home and
have them inspected by an adult.
Place a slip of paper with the
childs name, address and phone

number inside
a pocket in case
the youngster
gets separated
from the group.
Costumes
should be fireretardant and
strips of reflective tape should
be used to make
Michael
children more
visible. Use fa- Mignogna
cial make-up in- MAYORS MESSAGE
stead of masks
when possible. If masks are
worn, they should have nose and
mouth openings with large eye
holes. Carrying flashlights will
help children see better and be
seen more clearly.
Be safe and have fun!
** On Fri., Oct. 23, the Voorhees
Town Center will again host
Thriller Night starting at 7 p.m.
along the Boulevard. Enjoy Spirit Hours with specials at the bars
