living in the province. I stayed there for the first fifteen
years of my life and just transferred here in the city because of my admission in the university. Honestly, I still consider my province my community that is why I would like to continue writing this essay with the word community referring to my hometown. Knowing the fact that there is a rising number of natural calamities hitting our country, it is just safe to conclude that there is also a rising number of methods or techniques that the government provides us in order to know what to do when faced with such dreadful events. Growing up in my province in the northern part of the country, I am occasionally exposed to different natural calamities. I am quite proud to say that I have survived a number of strong typhoons and some earthquakes. With the geographic location of our province and town, it is really unavoidable to experience such disasters. I clearly remember what the strong typhoons have brought our community and I can say that they really brought a lot of damage not only to my family but also our neighbours. Based on what took place few years ago, I can tell that my community wasnt that much prepared for such natural calamities. If only we were informed well on what time or how exactly strong the typhoons were then we would
have had enough time to prepare our houses and our
things inside it. Or better yet, if only the administrators of the town had provided safety evacuation sites for our neighbours that had weak houses, then the number of injuries might have been put to minimal. It is really sad to wake up seeing the destroyed trees in your backyard, the yeros of your neighbours houses at the street, lampposts and wires and trees scattered everywhere. Due to the past disasters that hit our community, it is just right to say that we have learned from our mistakes now. Though there have been sacrifices, they have contributed well in teaching us to be prepared for such calamities. Nowadays, the local government gives warnings and updates whenever there is typhoon. It also provides a safe evacuation center. More importantly, the people in our community have learned their lessons well especially in facing such dangerous natural phenomena. I personally think that what is important right now is that we now know what to do when faced in such situations. It is but true that we panicked the last time but we promised ourselves that we would not let the typhoons defeat us once more. Through our collective effort, we will face whatever natural calamity it may be with our whole hearts and our desire to protect the community we call home.
