From the Editor
T hank you for choosing to take the time to read this edition of Gwinnett Woman. I am con-
tinually amazed at how blessed I am to share my thoughts and referrals to the women of
Gwinnett. We believe the businesses in these pages are the best of the best. Each business you will
see featured has made a personal commitment to you, the Gwinnett Woman, to provide you with
quality products and services, and I invite you to call them or go in and give them your business.
Without their support, Gwinnett Woman could not continue to share such valuable information
with you.
I would love to see you at the Fashion Show this year where proceeds will benefit Street Grace. Keep
a close eye on our website for more details.
It’s a new year, and love is in the air. My very own valentine just so happened to be born on Febru-
ary 14, so I am doubly blessed to share that day with him. I hope you find yours filled with love and
laughter. Schedule a portrait sitting with Wendy Rouleau at Portraits By Wendy to capture the love
in your family and home, or a special session of just you. Dress up and give the pictures as a gift to
your valentine.
Gwinnett Woman has joined OURcard and would like to encourage you to read about them in this
edition on page 22 to see if this is a service you personally or your business could benefit from.
In times of economic hardship, it is always nice to get a little extra something back or give a little
something extra back.
We are bringing you for the first time ever the “Future women to look
for!” segment. This is about a young woman who is very talented and
extremely important to me. I would like to hear from our readers about a
woman on the rise in your own life or neighborhood. Email us and we may
feature her in the next edition.
Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that
acknowledge his name.

Celebrating the Survivor in you!
Celebrating...Life
by Wendy Rouleau
Sometimes even
the most difficult
times in our lives
are times that need
to be captured
and celebrated.
T his January 5th marked the five year anniversary of my precious father’s death. I cannot ex-
press in words the grief that began to overtake me at his passing. I could write pages filled
with imagery and metaphors and still you would read them without comprehending the depth of
my pain, unless you have lost a parent. I felt as if I were drowning in a sea of sorrow, consumed
by the pain, and unable to understand how people were still smiling around me. Simply put, I was
lost…

A Personal Note
For page after page, I could share with you my memories of him, each one of which would be
filled with childlike admiration and unwavering love, but I would like to close with this thought:
my father taught me to believe in God’s love.
It isn’t that he said to me, “Lori, God loves you with uncon-
ditional love,” but more that he demonstrated to me the way
in which fathers are supposed to love their children—with
a patient, steady love that remains constant and strong, no
matter what storm is passing. I never felt judgment from
him, even when I was wrong. I never had to feel ashamed
to him, because I knew he was able to look past the mo-
ment and still be proud of who I was. My father loved me
in spite of my failures, much the way my heavenly father
loves me. During the 32 years that I was blessed to have
him, this was the greatest gift my father gave me.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all
your soul and with all your strength. These command-
ments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.
Impress them on your children. Talk about them when
you sit at home and when you walk along the road,
when you lie down and when you get up.
