Research group

Faculty Graduate School (FGS)

PhD peers
Fellow PhD candidates.

Director
Is responsible for the coordination, organisation and budget of the Graduate School
of their own Faculty and the monitoring and supervision of their PhD candidates.

Daily Supervisor (sometimes copromotor)


Usually an Assistant or Associate Professor. Their role is to assist in research design,
provide day-to-day guidance and feedback, monitor research progress and to assure
research quality.
Promotor
A full professor who acts as a supervisor and is responsible for the PhD project.
Scientific staff
This includes professors, assistant professors, associate professors, researchers,
postdocs and PhD candidates.

Faculty
PhD mentor
PhD candidates can consult their mentor for support/advice when experiencing
problems with the process and progress of their PhD programme that they
feel cannot be solved in discussion with their supervisors. All contact is strictly
confidential.
Faculty staff, support staff
This regards all non-scientific staff that specialise in administration and (technical)
support. (e.g. lab assistants, secretaries, HR, finance, student counsellors, policymakers, etc.)
Confidential advisors
You can turn to these advisors for support if you experience undesirable behaviour.
E.g. aggression, (work-related) conflicts, sexual harassment, bullying. All contact is
strictly confidential.
HR Advisor
They can be consulted regarding matters such as recruitment and selection, support
for the PhD Development Cycle, career advice, terms of employment, development of
competences and skills.

Officer
Their aim is to support the PhD process on an administrative level. This includes:
advising PhD candidates and supervisors on GS guidelines and services, informing
the UGS of new PhD candidates, monitoring DMA and processing (HR) forms of PhD
candidates.
PhD council
Several faculties have their own PhD council. They aim to support the social and
professional needs of the PhD community at their faculty.

University Graduate School (UGS)


Psychologist
Drs. Paula C.M. Meesters is a licenced psychologist, available to all TU Delft PhD
candidates. She offers short term support and treatment for all kinds of personal
issues or experienced difficulties in the PhD research process. All contact is free of
charge and strictly confidential.
Career counsellor
Monique Draijer offers PhD candidates personal counselling and advice on different
career-related issues.
Officer
They are responsible for intake and registration of all new PhD candidates and
preparation for and admittance to the defence ceremony.

TU Network
Promood
The independent representative body for PhD candidates at TU Delft. They aim to
support the social and professional needs of the entire PhD community at TU Delft.
ING
The International Neighbour Group aims to help international staff members and
their partners/families feel at home in the Netherlands. They offer activities to
international visitors attached to TU Delft.
YoungDelft
Young Delft is the TU Delft-wide community for employees under the age of 36. They
offer a platform to meet other young employees and to learn about the TU.
