A Note To You:
As I come to the association office each day I am impressed by the
number of people who give of their time and effort to keep everything
going out here. Most of them without ever getting any recognition. As
I was thinking of a way to recognize their contributions, I found the
below in a 1986 booklet of Our Daily Bread to share with you.
SERVANT ANNONYMOUS
.. your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly, Mat-
thew 6:4. I have several friends who qualify for the title “Servants
Anonymous.” One of them is an anonymous giver. On several occa-
sions he has pressed money into my hand and named a needy person
to whom he wanted me to give it. He always insists that I tell no one.
Once I asked for permission to identify him as a donor, but he chuck-
led and said, “What are you trying to do? Take away my pleasure and
make me lose my reward? If I get praise down here, I won’t get a
special smile from Him up there.”
I think of another man who wants no praise for his service. He’s al-
ways on hand to fix something at church or in the home of a needy
person. He’s ready with his car to offer transportation. While he is
known by those he helps, he wants no recognition and would prefer to
do his service without the knowledge of others.
Neither of these men considers himself a public speaker or qualified to
be a teacher of a Bible class. But they both represent a large number
of believers who serve the Lord faithfully and effectively behind the
scenes and without applause. Their only desire is to please the Lord
and to make others happy. Paul had such people in mind when he
referred to “the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are the Book
of Life” (Phil. 4:3).
If you are one of these special people, keep up the good work. Your
heavenly Father is pleased with what you are doing. Someday He will
reward you.-H.V.I.
