NETWORK LAB

Objective of Lab:
1. To understand the basic concepts of networks and circuits.
2. To understand the behavior of passive elements in the network for alternating and
direct current supplies.
3. To understand the basic concepts of three phase systems and relation between phase
and line values.
4. To understand the concept of two port networks and evaluation of their parameters.
5. To understand the concept of simulating circuits in PSPICE.
6. To understand the concept of various measurement bridges.
7. To understand the principle and working of oscilloscopes.
Course outcomes:
At the end of the course the student would be able to:
1. Analyze various networks and its performance.
2. Apply network concepts for study of further subjects.
3. Simulate the circuits using PSPICE simulation software.
Major Equipment in Network and Instrument Lab:
1. Single and Dual Channel Oscilloscope.
2. Multipurpose OP-AMP trainer kit.
3. Superposition theorem kit.
4. Thevenins theorem kit.
5. Reciprocity theorem kit.
6. Maximum power transfer theorem kit.

7. Function Generator.
8. Dual supplies (0-30 V).
9. Artificial Transmission Line.
10. 1-Phase transformer (1 KVA, 230/115V).
11. Kelvins double bridge measurement.
12. Wheatstone bridge, Schering Bridge.
13. PSPICE Simulation Software (Hardware lock based).
List of Experiments:
1. Verification of the principle of, superposition with ac and dc sources.
2. Verification of Thevenin, Norton and maximum power transfer theorems.
3. Determination of transient response of current in RL and RC circuits with step voltage
input.
4. Determination of transient response of current in RLC circuit with step voltage input
for under damped, .critically damped and over damped cases.
5. To study resonance in series and parallel RLC circuits and plot various responses.
6. To verify the line voltage and phase voltage, and line current and phase current
relationship in a star and delta three phase balanced circuit.
7. To find various two port network parameters (open circuit, short circuit, transmission
and hybrid).
8. Determination of driving point and transfer functions of a two port ladder network and
verify with the theoretical values.
9. Determination of image impedance and characteristics impedance of T and
networks, using OC and SC tests.
10. Verification of the parameter properties in the interconnected two port networks.
Series, parallel and cascade. Also study the loading effect in cascade.
11. To determine the attenuation characteristics of a low pass/high pass active filters.
12. To determine the node voltages and branch currents in a resistive network using
PSPICE.
13. To obtain the Thevenins equivalent circuit of a resistive network using PSPICE.
14. To study the transient response of a series RLC circuit for step voltage and alternating
square voltage inputs using PSPICE.
15. To obtain the frequency response of a series RLC circuit for sinusoidal voltage input
using PSPICE.
16. Calibration of DC voltmeter by direct reading DC potentiometer.

17. Measurement of power and power factor by two wattmeter method incorporating
instrument transformers.
18. Measurement of capacitance and loss angle of a capacitor by Schering Bridge.
19. Measurement of low resistance by Kelvin double bridge.
20. Measurement of frequency and phase difference of a sinusoidal ac voltage using CRO.
21.Measurement of Voltage, current and impedance by oscilloscope.
