boards or Knauf Apertura Boards according to
DIN 18180, and Knauf Mineral wool composite
boards are screwed on a metal grid of upper
and lower C channels CD 60/27 according to
DIN 18182.
The essential components of the Knauf Twin
Acoustical Ceiling System F 30 A are supplied
as a Twin Kit that comprises Knauf Apertura
Boards, U-type encasements, cut-to-size MF
composite boards, and mineral wool strips.

lining, braced with universal brackets to the lower
C channels of the fire-resistant level.
In general
The sound absorption diagrams of individual
Knauf Apertura Boards show values that are
only valid in connection with Knauf fleece
linings.
Knauf Apertura Boards are lined with ordinary
fleece, or special acoustical fleece as required,
both either white or black.
Loads directly anchored to Knauf Apertura
Boards are not admissible.
Random Plus: Certain view points in a room
or unfavorable lighting may lead to a diminished
visual impression of a continuous perforation
pattern by longitudinal joints.
Separate gypsum boards from building elements made with materials other than gypsum,
especially columns, by creating control joints
that allow for movement.
Settlement joints have to be taken over into the
construction of the Acoustical Ceiling Systems.
Use control joints in the case of ceiling areas
over approx. 15 m length, or for narrow ceiling
spaces caused by a break of a wall.
Knauf C channels are delivered galvanized.
This corrosion protective coating is sufficient
for indoor rooms, including bathrooms and
kitchens in private housing.

Spacing of upper C channels along with universal brackets at 800 mm max. Embed upper C
channels with mineral wool strips, and cover lower
C channels completely with mineral wool.

Use a chalk line or laser to align Knauf Apertura

Boards on-site. Straight, transverse and diagonal perforation rows must coincide even beyond
individual board edges.
Use the perforation aligner with pegs to check
board spacing. However, the aligner should only
be used as a spacer, and not as a geometric
monitor for patterns.
Start fastening of Knauf Apertura Boards either
in the middle or at a corner in order to prevent
upsetting deformation. Press the boards firmly on
to the grid during screw attachment.
A seamless, non-perforated frieze with a minimum
width of 100 mm is recommended for irregular or
non-rectangular layouts of ceilings.

Use a primer in the 2.5 to 4 mm joints (depending

on perforation pattern) between the boards after
installation.

Cladding
D127 Knauf Apertura Ceiling System
Cross mounting of Knauf Apertura Boards to lower
C channels, cross jointing of Knauf Apertura
Boards ensuring that end joints bear on C
channels.
Sand down the square 4 sides (S4S) edges
slightly before installing the boards.
Knauf Apertura Boards with standard circular
perforation are color-coded in red and blue along
the edges. Place red marking adjacent to blue
marking along front and long edges onsite.
An installation team with 3 workers is recommended.

Jointing Boards
Fill in joints with Knauf Uniflott without using tape,
covering all screw heads as well.
Knauf Apertura Boards: Use primer on the joints
before filling in. Use a nozzle to fill in either Knauf
Uniflott or Knauf Filler, and cover with Knauf
Finish Pasts. Open skimmed perforations with
a pilot wheel before the filler begins to set.
Filling and covering of joints should only take
place after the boards have been allowed to rest
in the given humidity and temperature zones, and
no more longitudinal changes can be expected,
i.e. expansion or contraction. Joints should be
filled at a minimum temperature of 10C. In case
of mastic asphalt screed, fill in joints after screed
has been applied.

D123 Knauf Twin

Anchor U-type encasements made of gypsum
board with Knauf drywall screws TN 3.5 x 25 to
the lower C channels. Anchor mineral wool
composite boards on C channels with two Knauf
drywall screws TN 3.5 x 35 per C channel. Reinforce the C channels with 8 mm gypsum board
strips to achieve ball impact safety compliance.

Treating Surfaces
Use a primer on Knauf Apertura Boards before
coating or painting them. Ensure that the primer
and the coat or paint are compatible.
The following coats can be used to cover Knauf
Apertura Boards with a paint roller:
Coats: Washable and abrasion-proof emulsion
paint, multicolored (rainbow) emulsion, oil paint,
matte-finish lacquer, alkyd resin paint, polymer
resin paint, PUR lacquer, or epoxy-based
lacquer, according to intended use or as
required.

Alkaline coats such as lime, water glass colors

and silicate-based paints are unsuitable for
gypsum board surfaces. Silicate-based emulsion paints may be used after referring to the
manufacturers recommendations and following
the stipulated guidelines closely.
Gypsum board surfaces that have constantly
been exposed to light without any protection can
develop yellowing agents that show up despite a
coat of paint. Therefore a trial coat is recommended that will extend across several boards
including all joints. Yellowing can, however, be
successfully avoided only by using a special
shielding primer.
