Silicon Rectifier Blower Motors: MVSI 1 & 2
Each rectifier block is provided with one blower which is driven by the motors MVSI 1
& 2. These motors are three phase induction motors of 2.2 KW each. These motors of rectifier
blocks are switched on and off by means of HVSI 1.& 2. The cooling of the rectifiers is
monitored by the airflow relay QVSI 1.& 2, the contact of QVSI 1.& 2 are connected in series
and lie in the energizing circuit of Q44. During normal operation this contact are closed. On
failure of blower the air flow relay QVSI 1 & 2 operates (contacts opens) will cause to open DJ.
These motors are starting along with ARNO.

MVSL1&2 are located in HT2 compartment and HVSL is located in switch panel. This is a
direct motor starts along with ARNO. It cools smoothening reactor No.1 (SL1).

MVSL2: Blower Motor for Smoothening Reactor2

This motor starts along with ARNO. It cools the smoothening reactor SL2. It also operates the
blower VSL2. QVSL2 is provided to check the performance of VSL2 and MVSL2. Whenever
VSL2 or MVSL2 becomes defective QVSL2 will deenergise and trips DJ. A switch HVSL2 is
provided which is having four positions similar to that of HVSL1. It is provided in HT2
compartment RSI2 block.

REMOTE CONTROLLED AUX. MOTORS
Main Compressors (MCP1, MCP2, MCP3)
There are 3 compressor motors provided in a loco to build up air pressure for the operation of
pneumatic & braking system. The electromagnetic contactor C101, C102 & C103 are for MCP1,
MCP2 and MCP3 respectively. The switches for these contactors are BLCP and BLCPD. The
switch HCP is located in switch panel and it is having 8 positions to program the compressor as
required.
HCP Main compressor isolating switch:
HCP is having 8 positions namely 0, 1, 2, 3, 12, 23, 13, 123.
Whenever vacuum brake train is operated HCP should be kept in 1 or 2 or 3. While
working in AIR brake HCP should be kept in 1&3 or 1&2 or 2&3 or 1&2&3 position. The
compressors are provided with individual oil sump. The oil level should be with in the minimum
and maximum marks. Whenever any MCP is defective, it can be isolated by HCP. In WAG 5A
locomotives compressor starts working when BLCP is switched ON. But the air pressure is
maintained between 8.5kg/cm and 10 kg/cm by RGCP & VEAD valve. MCP 1, 2 & 3 are
provided in motor chest No1. RGCP is provided in CAB1 center locker 1, VEAD is provided
behind CAB1.
Exhauster Motors MPV1&MPV2:
There are two exhauster motors provided in WAG 5A Electro Magnetic contactors C121 is for
MPV1 and C111 is for MPV2. These contactors are remote controlled by the switches BLPV &
HPV. When BLPV is closed and ZPV on 2 position, contactor C121 closes and MPV1 starts
working. When ZPV in 1 position contactor C111 closes and MPV2 starts working.

MPV1 & MPV2 are located behind CAB1. ZPV is located in switch panel. Two types of
exhausters are provided. They are of SLM TYPE & NORTHEY TYPE. SLM type exhauster
is having an oil sump at the bottom with a dipstick for checking oil level. The oil level
should be between minimum and maximum marks. A gear driven lubricating oil pump is
provided to transfer the oil from the sump to the bearings. 4 sight glasses are provided on the
exhausters. To check the oil drops for lubricating the gears and bearings. Minimum 9-12
drop/min should pass thorough the sight glasses. A manual operating handle is also provided
on lubricating pump to check the efficiency of the pump.
In NORTHEY type exhauster there are two oil sumps. One at the bottom and other the
top for lubricating the gears & bearings. The lower sump lubricates the gears by splashing oil and
the upper lubricates the gears by splashing oil and the upper sump lubricates the bearings by
section. Both sumps are provided with dipsticks for checking the oil levels. It should between
min & max marks.
MVRH: Radiator Blower Motor
It is provided to operate the blower VRH for cooling the transformer oil in the radiator and RPS.
It is provided in HT2 compartment. C107 contactor is provided to start and stop the motor.
BLVMT is provided to start and stop the motor. When BLVMT is switched on contactor C107
closes and MVRH starts working. The working of MVRH can be checked from corridor No2. To
monitor the working of VRH, a relay QVRH is provided. A switch HVRH is provided to isolate
QVRH or MVRH whenever MVRH or QVRH is defective. It has four positions.
HVRH switch positions:
0
QVRH & MVRH not in service
1
QVRH & MVRH both in service
2
QVRH in service & MVRH not in service
3
QVRH out of service & MVRH in service
MVMT1 & MVMT2 (TRACTION MOTORS BLOWER MOTORS 1 & 2)
MVMT1 is provided to operate VMT1, which cools TM1, 2&3. MVMT2 is provided to
operate VMT2, which cools TM4, 5 and 6. MVMT1 is provided behind CAB1 & MVMT2 is
behind CAB2. Electro magnetic contactor C105 is for MVMT1, and C 106 is for MVMT2.
These contactors are remote controlled by the switch BLVMT. Relays QVMT1 & QVMT2 are
provided to check the proper functioning of MVMT1 &2. In any case if one of the MVMTs
becomes defective or sluggish in operation, these relays will de-energise and trip DJ. MVMT1 is
having an isolating switch HVMT1 and MVMT2 is having an isolating switch HVMT2. They
are located in switch panel and have 4 positions (0, 1, 2 and 3).
