Stakeholder Survey Analysis

Lisa Harrison, Melanie Kirby, LaRae Thornton, & Jennifer White

The following presentation includes a comprehensive examination of charts and
data summarizing the results from a survey administered to a group of teachers in
order to evaluate the overall effectiveness of the media program and how the media
center can meet the needs of the teachers and students. The survey consisted of 12
items and was completed by our FRIT 7331 classmates. The class acted as
teachers and stakeholders of the School Library Media Program at Wayne County
High School. The survey was created using Google Forms and was distributed
during the week of October 12, 2015.

Based on the data collection from question one, all surveyors were in agreement that the library
provides materials and/or technology that are considered reliable and relevant to the curriculum
needs of the teachers and students.

According to Johnson (2013), The purpose of gathering data, of course, is to help identify both
the strong and weak areas of the literary program. The current status of the media programs
ability to provide relevant materials and resources is considered an area of strength.

What is your favorite reason for visiting the

media center?
I do not visit the media center
Get help from the media specialist
Use technology
Check out books
0

The classic reason for visiting the media center is to check out books. We need to market the use
of technology and that the media specialist is available for all stakeholders.
3. In your opinion, which of the following would make collaboration more effective at your
school?
45% surveyed stated a list of pre-designed collaborative lessons for teachers to choose
from or get ideas from.
27% surveyed stated a calendar for teachers to sign up for collaborative lesson time in the
library.
18% surveyed stated a collaborative planning organizer that includes a lesson outline
with teaching standards, activities, resources and assessment.
10% stated both the second and third reasons would be equally beneficial.

4. What type of professional learning would you like to see (in terms of technology) from
your school library media specialist?
36% responded training on new Web 2.0 tools
27% responded training on Google drive/classrooms
27% responded training on collaboration techniques to use with student involving
technology
10% responded training on developing classroom blogs for student use
More training is needed for Web 2.0 tools, Google drive/classrooms and collaboration
techniques.

analyze this and find the cause of this discrepancy.

To prepare students for 21st century skills there is a digital divide that must be breached
for students who do not have access to technology at home. What type of technology could
the media center provide on a check out basis that would best serve you and your students
to bridge this lack of access to technology?

The majority of the faculty feels that the HP Chromebook would meet the needs to bridge the
digital divide, also followed closely are the iPad Mini and the Kindle. Any technology for
student use at home is better than none.
10. To prepare students for the 21st century the Global Citizen Foundation came to the
consensus that the following areas need to be mastered by students at the time of
graduation: Problem solving, creativity, analytical thinking, collaboration,
communication, ethics, action, and accountability. How can the media specialist help you
develop lessons that incorporate technology in you lessons and help you teach students
ways to master these skills?
36% wanted the media specialist to co-teach lessons with the academic teacher
27% wanted mini-courses using different types of technology
27% wanted help planning lessons using technology
10% wanted collaborative planning with the media specialist and other academic courses
A new media specialist will need to start with co-teaching lessons with the academic teacher then
concentrate on adding the other portions to their curriculum.

To encourage students to make the media center a place for learning, collaboration, and
sharing of knowledge; which of the following do you think would best encourage students
at our school to use and feel at ease to use the media center and all of its resources?

Johnson suggests that this type of research allows the media specialist to develop-short term
goals for the media center, but that this process needs to be revised and revisited to make it a
result-centered and time bound list of objectives that use SMART goals.
