MauriceDelanne,aFrenchdesigneroftandemwingaircraft.Ina
tandemwingdesigntheliftvectorsonthetwowingsarespreadfar
apartlongitudinally,allowingthemtoacttogethertoachieve
stabilityandcontrol.

Thisisdifferentfromabiplane,inwhichthewingsarestacked
moreorlessvertically,oneabovetheother,suchthattheirlift
vectorsareveryclosetogetherandaseparatehorizontalstabiliser
surfaceisrequired,placedwellforwardoraftofthemainwings.Itdiffersfromthecanardor"tailfirst"
configurationinthattheforwardwingcontributesamajorpartofthelift,typicallymorethan50%.
