1. INTRODUCTION
Project management has been practiced since early civilization. The objective of
every project manager is to deliver the product on time, within budget and with the
required quality. Another approach to project management is to consider the three
constraints as finance, time and human resources. The responsibility of project
integration requires the project manager to perform three key tasks planning,
integration and communication for all the project activities. A project is a temporary
endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result. Projects can be
of any size and duration. They can be simple, like planning a party, or complex like
launching a rocket on water. Projects are different from operations they end when
their objectives have been reached or it is terminated. The purpose of project
management is prediction and prevention

2. PROJECT PHASES
Product Oriented Process
These processes are domain specific and responsible for creation of project
products/results also called Life Cycle. Life cycles what to do to get work done.
Project Management Process
Apply globally and responsible to manage the project throughout the life of Project.
Also called Process Group A process is simply a way of transforming an input into
an output using proven tools.
2.1 Project Initiation
The first stage of project phases is initiating. The initiation stage determines the
nature and scope of the development.
2.2 Project Planning & Design
After the initiation stage, the system is planning and design. Can be produced within
acceptable quality standards time and budget constraints. Plan to manage all
Aspects of project like Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human Resource,
Communication, Risks, Procurement, and Stockholders. Planning is deciding in
advance what is to be done, when, where, how and by whom it is to be done.
2.3 Project Execution & Controlling

Monitoring and Controlling consists of those processes performed to observe project


execution so that (in this phase potential problems can be identified in a timely
manner and corrective action can be taken during execution of the project. It is the
longest stage in project. Monitoring the project variables cost, effort, scope, etc.

2.4 Project Close
Closing phase is the last phase of the project which brings close out of project.
Whatever the project requirements are pre-defined, during this phase the total
delivery is accepted by client. Closing includes the formal acceptance of the project
and the ending thereof.

There are nine knowledge areas each covering its own significance in the project. A
knowledge area can cover several phases of the project. The nine areas are mentioned
below in detail.

Integration Management
Project integration is one of the keys for a project manager. Project integration
is the process of ensuring all the elements of the projects are accounted. It
has various elements identified, defined, combined and coordinated
Scope Management
Scope Management is the process that ensure the project is inclusive of all
the work required, and only the work required to complete the project
successfully
Time management
Time management is timely completion of project. Finalized schedule is set
as baseline. Baseline is used to track the progresses of the work.
Cost Management:
Cost management is the process that involved in budgeting, estimating and
controlling costs so that the project can be completed within budget.
Quality Management
Quality Management is the process that ensures the project will meet the
needs and are satisfied by Quality Planning, Quality Assurance, and Quality
Control. The main difference between quality control and quality assurance is
that quality assurance is focused primarily on the quality process
improvement whereas quality control looks at specific results to see if they
conform to the quality standard.
Human Resource Management:
Human Resource Management is the process that organizes, manage and
lead the project team involved in the project.
Risk Management

Balancing risk avoidance and risk acceptance. Risk management refers to the
practice of identifying potential risks in advance, analyzing them and taking
precautionary steps to reduce/curb the risk.

Procurement Management
Procurement management is a need to acquire material, services and goods
to meet project scope.
Communications Management
Communication management is for liaising between the client, consultants
and stakeholders. It is process required to ensure timely collection,
distribution, retrieval and disposal of project information.
Safety management
To avoid accidents affected the safety planning has to be done. Project
safety management involves safety planning, safety assurance, and safety
control.

4. Roles and responsibilities of site managers


He should that all resources are available for the staff to complete the work.
He has to decide the weekly work packages to every staff member.
He has to monitor the work carefully when there are any changes in program so
as to avoid rush at the time of the completion.
He has to inform that to project manager about the problems so as to resolve the
problem.
He should read and interpret documentation and communicate with the staff.
He has to co-ordinate with sub contractors in site to make sure that they would
complete the work in time.
Evolving a reputation for high quality workman ship.
Providing safe and satisfactory working conditions for all personnel and workers.

Motivating people to give of their best within their capacities.

5. Conclusion
Project management has of very much importance for organizations success and
