Dashboard - Query Browser Insert In Spreadsheet (Grey-Out) Nov 29, 2012 4:32 AM
Hi Dashboard gurus,
I have just added a query into the Dashboard via Query Browser, added the query, pick Result Objects and
Setup the Usage Options.
However, after I clicked OK, everything seems fine, but the Insert In Spreadsheet button is Grey-Out.
It doesn't allow me to insert the Query result into the Spreadsheet. (As picture attached)
Is it something I missed?
Any advice would really be a big help.

You cant insert values from spread sheet if you are using bex variable .
But i think you can get list of value from bex variable but you cant pass the selected value from spreadhseet to
backend .
The only wayto use bex variable is to use component " query prompt selector "
If you are processing the values and sending from spreadsheet then the only way is to create prompt .
you need to create a prompt when you are creating query in dashboard in order to use the options "Insert in a
spreadsheet."

Thanks Pramod,
I realised that Structure is greyed-out but Key figure can be insert into the Spreadsheet.
Which is quite different compared to older version where we use Data Connection to link queries and display
the exact result of query into Spreadsheet, then use spreadsheet as Data Provider to do Charts etc.

Yeah i was talking about variables .. But yeah in previous connection you get the corsstab with headers ..Even
i am looking a way to bring in the headers . .will let you if i find any workaround ...

Just curious if you were able to resolve this issue (not allow to insert query results into the embedded
worksheet?). I'm having the same issue and not being able to find the solution.

Hi Yung Tran,
For the time being, from what I found is that, Key Figure and Characteristics are able to insert into query
without problem.
But For Struct, you can give it a try with pramod's suggestion below, I've tried, it allows me to link the Struct to
Excel sheet, but doesn't seems to able to display the result though.

Bring the struct. ( the highlighted one in snap shot ) object into the query. It worked for me . Let me know if
it didnt work .

Thanks for the screenshot, I have tried it, and by selecting the top-most Struct, it allows the Struct to insert into
spreadsheet, but the result didn't display accordingly when I preview the Dashboard.
E.g.:Under the Struct, it have Comp1, Comp2, and Comp3.
So the way I select/highlight the cell for "Insert in Spreadsheet", 3 cell in one column.
But the result displayed did not show Comp1, Comp2, and Comp 3.
Is there a way to link to Spreadsheet like the way it used to in previous version using "Data Manager"?

I could get the result for defined structure , but there is no way to get the KeyFigure structure .
The values you get when you run the query in query browser ( preview query result ) should be exact values
when you insert in spread sheet ..
check the way you are getting in query browser , in preview query result and take a snapshot --> current excel
data at run time and debug.
But there is no way to get the entire cross tab as we get in data manager .
This connection gives the flexibility of ordering the chars and Kf in query browser.

Thanks for the tips, after a few tries, the Struct is showing now.
As for Key Figure struct, its showing too.
Not exactly sure whether the KF Struct I am referring to is same as the Struct you mentioned.
Say for example, the Key Fig Struct have Jan Balance, Feb Balance etc.
Then just select each key fig and insert into the spreadsheet, then show it in graph.

Thansk Pramod for the suggestion.
Are you connecting your query to datasource via Uninverse or BEx ? I connect to the data source via Universe
and I don't seem to be able to insert to spreadsheet even though I have the dimension brought into the query.
Pls refer to the snapshot below, I have "Account" dimension in the "Result Objects" but I could not insert the
result (Account) into the spreadsheet. The "Insert in Spreadsheet" selector is greyed-out.

One more question related to the Dashboard.
Say, if in one Tab, I need to use 2 different query for 2 different graphs.
Is there a way to only use one Query prompt to actually get 2 queries result?

YEs you can use one query prompt to get results from 2 queries .

if you look at properties of query prompt selector you find the queries under destination prompts , where you
can select the prompts from different queries .
and you can choose the queries to be refreshed under refresh queries .

Attribute can't map to spreadsheets, please try to map dimensions........
