The driver installation tutorial is related to the Menci Software USB hard key dongle "version 3.0"
and "version 3.1"
Version 3: supports up to Windows 7 32/64 bit
Version 3.1: supports Windows 8 32/64 bit
They have different drivers.
If you are not sure about your dongle version please ask to Menci reporting the dongle serial
number.
Please note that following operations must be done by an user with Administrator rights on the
system.
The operative system will ask where to search the drivers. You have not to use the automatic
search/download: you have to select manually the driver path int your PC (or software CDrom).
Now browse to the folder that is related to your dongle version (3.0 or 3.1). Select the right one (not
subfolders but "3.0" or "3.1" main driver folder) and confirm the driver position.
Common Trouble
If the dongle is well installed but the application won't work:
1. When the application is started a message like "This application has failed to start
because WINUSB.DLL was not found" is shown.
Probably you have a Windows XP 32bit operating system and some system components are
missing. In this case you have to ask for an archive called "WinUsb_forXP32BitOnly.zip" to
Menci Software. The zip archive holds two DLL files that should be manually copied inside
folder "C:\windows\system32". Then reboot you system and try again to start the software.
2. If a message like "The application failed to initialize ..." is shown, you can try to install
some missing Microsoft system redistributable libraries. You can download them from
Microsoft website or you can search them inside the installation folder: usually there is a
subdirectory called "vcRedistributable" that include those libraries. Please install them and
restart the software.
If it doesn't fix the problem please:
- uninstall the software
- manually delete the installation folder
- install again the software
in order to remove any incompatible DLL installed by previous versions.
3. If the message report a "Application has failed to start because XXXX.dll was not
found" or similar please contact Menci Software support.
