Wimbledon Championships 2015


The 2015 Wimbledon Championships was a tennis tournament held from 29 June to 12 July
2015. The tournament had taken place at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in
Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. It was the 129th edition of the championships and the
48th edition in the Open Era.
Mens Singles Title
Djokovic beats Federer to win third Wimbledon title

Novak Djokovic from Serbia defeated Roger Federer from Switzerland for the second
successive year on 12 July 2015 at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London.
Djokovic defeated Roger Federer by 7-6 6-7 6-4 6-3.
With this win he captured his third Wimbledon title and ninth Grand Slam of his career
and also equaled the number of Wimbledon titles won by his current coach Boris
Becker.

Womens Singles Title


Serena Williams Wins 6th Wimbledon Title

World number one Serena Williams claimed a 6th Wimbledon title and fourth
successive grand slam crown by suppressing the spirited attacking instincts of 20th seeded defeated Spaniard Garbine Muguruza 6-4,6-4 in southwest London to complete
the Serena Slam.
Williams hasnt lost in a Grand Slam since falling in the third round to Alize Cornet at
Wimbledon last year.
Williams would become the first player since Steffi Graf in 1988 to achieve the
calendar-year grand slam.Shealso won the U.S,Australian and French Open titles.
Veteran American has now set the stage for a shot at history in her own backyard
when she returns to New York for next months US Open where she will look to become
just the fourth female player to win all four grand slams in a year.

Mens Doubles Title


Jean-Julian Rojer Wins Wimbledon Men's Doubles Title

Jean-Julien Rojer (Netherlands) and Horia Tecu (Romania) pair won the 2015 mens
Doubles Wimbledon Title.
In the final match they defeated Jamie Murray (UK) and John Peers (Australia) pair by
75, 64, 64

Womens Doubles Title


Sania seals historic Wimbledon crown with Hingis
Indian tennis star Sania Mirza with her Swiss partner Martina Hingis has won the
Wimbeldon Womens double title 2015.
This is a historic victory as Sania Mirza became the first female player from India to
win a womens doubles Grand Slam trophy.
The duo of Sania Mirza and Martina Hinges defeated the Russian pair MakarovaVesnina by 5-7 7-6 7-5 in the finals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee congratulated Sania for
her achievement.

Mixed Doubles Title
Paes wins 16th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon

Indian tennis star Leander Paes along with his Swiss partner Martina Hingis has won
the Wimbledon Mixed Doubles on 12 July 2015 at the Wimbledon Tennis
Championships in London.
The pair defeated Alexander Peya and Timea Babos (Austrian-Hungarian team) by 6-1
6-1.
It was Paes eighth mixed doubles title and second with Hingis.
After his remarkable win, Paes dedicated his trophy to India.

Boys Doubles Title


India's Sumit Nagal wins Wimbledon junior boys' doubles title

Youngster Sumit Nagal entered the history books as only sixth Indian to win a Grand
Slam junior title after winning the boys doubles trophy at the Wimbledon
championships with partner Nam Hoang Ly, in London on Sunday.
17-year-old Nagal and his eighth seed Vietnamese partner overcame the fourth seeds
Reilly Opelka and Akira Santillan 7 -6(4) 6-4 in the title clash that lasted 63 minutes.

Boys Singles Title

Reilly Opelka, a 6ft 10in teenager of United States, wins 7-6, 6-4 in boys singles final.
He defeated Swede Mikael Ymer. It is 12 years since an American man last won a
grand slam title.

Girls Singles Title

Sofya Zhuk, a 15-year-old Russian, won the girls title at Wimbledon. She beat Anna
Blinkova, also from Russia, 7-5, 6-4 to win her first junior Grand Slam title.

The Championships,Wimbledonis the oldest tennis tournament in the world,It has been
held at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London since 1877.
It is one of the fourGrand Slamtennis tournaments,the others being the Australian
Open,the French Open and the US Open. Since the Australian Open shifted to
hardcourt in 1988,Wimbledon is the only major still played on grass.
The tournament takes place over two weeks in late June and early July, culminating
with the Ladies and Gentlemens Singles Final, scheduled always for the second
Saturday and Sunday respectively. Five major, junior, and invitational events are held
each year.

Roger Federer has a record total of 17 grand slam titles .
Federer is the only man to reach 10 consecutive finals.
They have faced each other 39 times, with Federer leading 20-19.
Neither man has defeated the other more than four times in a row.
Balls that are used during the championship are sent to Surrey Wildlife Trust to be
used as an alternative home for the threatened harvest mouse.
Novak Djokovic has celebrated each of his Wimbledon victories by eating blades of
grass.
