Practise shots - the mirrors evaluation

Lighting

Half of the characters

face is in shadow creating
a sinister feel to his
presence. We will use this
concept of shadowing for
our music video however
we will need to make it
slightly lighter so that
the audience can see
the bruises under the
males eyes. To do this,
we will use torches and
have the camera crew
pointing them at me

The black and white filter enables the other

reflections of the male to really stand out and
because the background of the tithe barn is all
blacked out, the audience cannot see the
mirrors thus creating an accurate depiction of
the characters unstable mind

The lighting created a dark

atmosphere that was highlighted in
our audience response. The white
shirt mixed with the black
background is an eye catching
contrast. This is something we carry
on using

The reflection
An error in the filming that we will
need to improve on is fuzziness

around the character. The green/

blue screen editing software in
iMovie allowed us to create the
moving effect in the mirror
however this fuzziness is there
because we used different levels

The movement of the character in the

mirror in contrast to the other character
stood still worked well. However what
one of the interviewees said was that
the male stood in-front of the mirror
should be more stationary in order to
show more of the reflections movement

The mirrors legs can be seen in shot due to

the reflections. To get over this mistake, we
will need to position the mirrors so that they
cannot be seen on camera. In the
background of this shot, chairs from the tithe
barn stage can also be seen. Going forward,
we will need to review the footage on the day
of filming to see if any unwanted objects can
be seen on camera so that we can reshoot if
necessary

When reviewing the footage, we felt that the

male of the right should next time wear a
jacket to make it clear to the audience that the
reflection is another part of the males
personality. The theme of constantly showing
differences in people is something we will
carry forward for when we film the actual
music video

Camera movement
All of the filming was done handheld rather than using a tripod. This was mainly due to us having
limited resources for that specific filming slot as it was during the evening when classrooms were
locked. When we film the real footage, we will use a Stedicam to ensure there is a smooth
movement when going up the males body. This will help us limit the shakiness of the camera.
Shakiness is something we feel will break the audiences engagement with our video and
therefore it is key we maintain a fluid camera movement

Makeup and costume

Subtle things such as the hair

being scruffy will help add to
the males insane profile. We
can still make the hair much
more scruffier and to do this
we will use hair gel.

We felt that the look of the character

wasn't very effective in conveying
how unstable he is. For the next
round of filming, we will use a
ripped shirt and trousers to show
contract between the males
balanced side and his psychotic
side

The bruising can be seen, yet

Anna said the bruising could still
be more defined to help it to be a
predominate feature. Thinking
ahead to filming the real
sequence, Anna will use darker
browns and eyeliner to make the
bruise stand out more.
