A course looking at models of
caring for and supporting the
bereaved. It will also explore
the grieving process and other
issues.

Good News!
Following Molly Dow’s teaching on Lent practice at the Ash Wednesday service, I
felt compelled to look into the practice of confession. I spoke to a number of
people who had made a full confession, who all explained that they had found
new freedom from old patterns of sin and an increased sense of God’s grace to
face temptation. I was encouraged to read some books on the discipline and
came to the conclusion that it would be good for me to do a full confession.
At the prayer night I wrote out a full confession; sins of my childhood,
adolescence and adulthood. Then last Wednesday I was working at my desk
when I clearly felt a compulsion from God to go straight away to do my
confession. I thought to myself I haven’t got a clue where to go?! Anyway I
looked up the Catholic Cathedral in Manchester on the internet and found that
they have confessions at lunchtime and so jumped on a train to go immediately.

breakthrough, people being
healed or set free. We don’t

we will endeavour to use as

Just before I arrived at the Cathedral some Franciscan monks were stood on the
pavement outside of the Manchester University Catholic chaplaincy. One of them
gave me a cross, and asked if I needed help. I proceeded to explain that I was
on my way to do my first confession to which he said he would be happy to hear
my confession. I went into a room with him and read my confession not knowing
what to expect. I started crying as I read my confession and my tears lasted
about 40 minutes. I felt extremely fragile as I finished, but felt the care I received
from this Franciscan monk truly liberating. I left that room feeling joy at my
freedom from guilt and shame that I had carried for years!! It was truly amazing!!!
I know that this discipline is probably unfamiliar for most of us in our tradition, but
I would encourage you that if you feel bound by old patterns of sin, guilt or
shame then this Lenten discipline could be for you. If anyone would appreciate
making a confession, I would be happy to listen to you in complete confidence

Leadership
Huddle
The Leadership huddle is
where many of the steps for our
Gap goals will be rolled out. It
is therefore imperative that
those considered leaders in the
church would make the
following dates a priority. 19th
April & 3rd June. We would
like to formally invite all PCC,
Standing Committee, small
group leaders, kids leaders,
youth leaders and all those
who would consider
themselves involved in the
leadership of ministry either
inside or outside of the church.
During the meeting there will be
worship, a biblical context for
what is taught, accountability,
practical leadership skills and
the chance to have input for
specific ministries in breakout
sessions from time to time.
These meetings are not
designed to replace specific
ministry planning meetings and
these should continue as
normal.
NCounter Lent
Our study on Lamentations is
reaching the halfway point. We
have all been surprised so far at
the lessons learnt from this
unfamiliar book. Last night
ended with an encouraging time
of corporate prayer.
Men’s Walk
We had a great time on our
first men’s walk and all
survived - Just! It was a
great time of fellowship
spanning the congregations
and age groups in the church
and we are already planning
the next event.
