Write down your answer in the space provided. If it is not enough, you can write overleaf.
1. Give 3 examples of vectors quantities and 3 examples of scalar quantities.

2. Speed and velocity have the same units. Explain why speed is a scalar quantity whereas velocity is a vector quantity.

3. A car travels 20.0 km due north and then 35.0 km in a direction 60o west of north, as
in Figure 3.6. Find the magnitude and direction of a single vector that gives the net
effect of the cars trip. (This vector is called the cars resultant displacement.)

4. A car moved 20 km to east, then moved 12 km to north, and finally moved 29 km to the west. Time spent for the
journey was 50 minutes. Calculate :
a. the distance travelled,
b. the displacement,
c. the average speed (in km/h), and
d. the average velocity (in km/h) of the car.

5. Each of the displacement vector A and B shown in figure P3.8 has a magnitude
of 3.00 m. Graphically find
a. A + B

b. B A

c. A 2B

6. From figure P3.8, find the magnitude of A 2B using analytical method.

7. Given vector of force as shows the diagram, determine the magnitude of vertical and horizontal component of the
vector.
F = 20 N

1200

8. Two vectors are 60 N and 50 N respectively is connected on their tail and form angle of 600. Find the magnitude of the
resultant vector by analytical method.

9. Find the magnitude and direction of resultant vector of the diagram below.

10. A displacement vector in the xy-plane is 12 m long and directed at angle = 30 in

Fig. 3-26. Determine :
(a) the x-component , and

(b) the y-component of the vector.

11. From the following diagram, find the magnitude of component x and y of
the resultant vector. Then find the direction of the resultant vector from
positive direction of x axis.
