Post-Doctoral Fellow in Molecular Plant Pathology

Division of Plant Pathology

A Post Doctoral Fellow position is available to conduct research on molecular basis of


host-virus interactions. Position responsibilities and duties include maintaining viral cultures
in greenhouse; design and execution of experiments; data management; facilitating lab
operations. In addition to greenhouse work, laboratory techniques will involve molecular
techniques (e.g., PCR; real-time PCR; DNA, RNA and protein purification; DNA cloning;
gel electrophoresis; sequencing; western, Southern and northern blotting; Protein-protein
interactions by yeast two hybrid system) and plant tissue culture. Applicant must be willing
to learn additional techniques and solve problem as needed for the advancement of the
laboratory.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology /


Biochemistry, a strong demonstrated background in molecular techniques, an interest in
molecular plant-virus interactions and the ability to work in a team including
interdisciplinary collaborators. The successful candidate is expected to have excellent oral
and written communication skills and to be able to work independently. Applicants must
have excellent record keeping abilities and be able to manage multiple experimental
approaches simultaneously.

FELLOWSHIP: Rs. 18,000/- (consolidated) per month +HRA as applicable.


AGE: The upper age limit is 35 years; relaxable to SC/ST/OBC/PH/Ex.-Serviceman as
per the Govt. of India instructions.

The period of engagement of Post Doctoral Fellows will be initially for a period of 1 year
which may be extendable up to the XIth Plan Period i.e. upto 31.03.2012. Their is no
provision of re-engagement. The selected candidate(s) shall have no legal right to claim
regularization by absorption or otherwise against any regular posts or any further contractual
engagement on termination of the XIth Plan in the Institute. The engagement is purely
time bound, non-regular and on co-terminous basis with the XIth Plan. The services of
the incumbent shall stand terminated automatically on expiry of the period in the sanction of
the post.

The eligible candidate should bring an application on plain paper addressed to Head,
Division of Plant Pathology, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi-110012
along with complete bio-data giving full particulars i.e. proof of age, Qualification,
Examination passed, marks obtained in each examination, experience, papers published,
NOC from present employer etc. Candidates must bring all the certificates in original
along with one set of attested copies.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
