Question 1
An urban area consists of four zones has the base-year trip matrix shown (Table 1). The growth rates of the
zones have been projected for 25-yr period. Using Fratar technique, calculate the number of trip interchanges
in the horizon year (perform two iterations).

Question 2
Two routes connect an O-D pair with performance functions t1 = 5+3.5x1, and t2 = 1+0.5x/ (with t's in minutes
and x's in thousands of vehicles per hour). It is known that at X2= 3, the difference between the first derivates
of the system optimal and user equilibrium mathematical programming approaches, evaluated with respect to
X2, is 7. Determine the difference in total vehicle travel times (in veh-minutes) between user and system-
optimal solutions.

Question 3 .
a) Show that the logit probabilities are not affected by adding or subtracting a constant to all utilities. Discuss
the implications of this fact. (3)
b) Compute the probabilities of choosing car, bus, shared taxi and underground according to the following
nested logit model (Fig. 1), with the following utility functions, a) High nest, Vc = - 0.03tc- 0.02 Cc+ 1.25,
Vst = - 0.03lst - 0.02Cst- 0.20, Vrnt= 0.6(logsum), b) Mass transit nest, Vb = - 0.04 tb- 0.03~ + 0.5;
Vu = -o.04tu - 0.03cu. For the average variable values are given in Table 2. (7)
