Gail (aka Nightsongs)

Materials:
1 skein of Hand Maiden Sea silk
4.5mm needles
I used fingering weight yarn, but you can use any weight you desire. The lacyness of this shawl
will depend on the needle size, the bigger the needles, the more lacy your shawl will be.
You can make this shawl as long or short as you want. Remember that the amounts of yarn required
will change depending on the shawl size and/or yarn choice.
The one I knit has 7 pattern repeats. You can keep on knitting for as long as you like/have yarn.
Gauge? Swatch?
Lets just skip this, shall we?
Instructions:
Cast on 4 stitches and work 2 rows in garter st.. The border consists of two stitches on either side
worked in garter st those stitches are not shown in the charts. Wrong side rows of the chart are
purled.
On the next RS row (first row on the chart) you will do:
2st (border),2YO, 2st (border)
Keep working following the first chart until the desired length.

The two charts above show the first repeat plus 2 RS rows. You'll notice that the shawl grows side
ways by adding one leaf to each side and two at the center.
The central leaves begin with double yarn overs. The way you work them on the WS rows is up to
you. I prefer to do a purl,purl through the front loop, but feel free to do P,K or K,P.
To make a shawl just like the one I did, repeat rows 3 through 33 seven times, paying attention to
the fact that only the edge leaves and the central ones (the ones closest to the yellow column) begin
with yarn overs. There is nothing stopping you from making the shawl longer. When you get the
length you desire, go to the edge chart.

the tip of one leaf and the filler stitches that go between the leaves. Repeat the chart lengthwise as
many times as necessary.

Bind off by *knitting one, returning it to the left needle, k2tog, return to the left needle*, repeat
from * to * until there is only one st left, cut and tie the yarn and block.
