ALL SAINTS DAY

All Saints Day is Sunday, Nov 1, a day to remember the deceased. If you know of someone who
has passed away within the last year, Nov 1,
Dear Church,

At the Regional Gathering on Oct. 18, the featured speaker was William Lee, pastor of Louden
Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in

2014 to Oct 31, 2015, give their name to the office so they may be remembered by the reading
of their name during worship service.

Roanoke, Virginia. In his sermon, he mentioned

how someone had given him a Longaberger basket.
For many years it sat on his desk, this basket,
and he mostly ignored it. He had never heard of
Longaberger. Then one day he decided to look up
Longaberger on the internet. He googled it, and
discovered just how special Longaberger baskets
are.
Many of us forget how special WE are. Maybe
its time to look yourself up not on google, but
in scripture. What does God say about you?
I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made Or, as the Message Bible puts it, I
am marvelously made! (Psalm 139).
Thus says the Lord: You are precious in my
sight, and honored, and I love you (Isaiah 43: 1,
4).
See what love the Father has given us, that
we should be called children of God (1 John 3:1).

In honor of all veterans,

the office will be closed
for Veterans Day on
Wednesday, Nov. 11

Wonderful.
Marvelous.
Precious.
Honored.
Loved.
This is just the beginning of how special God
thinks you are. Your task is to know this and remember it, and to let others know that they, too,
are precious in Gods sight.
Blessings,
Pastor Danny

For God so loved the world that he

gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

2016 PLEDGE REPORT

The 2016 pledge drive has received more than $90,000 funding commitments. We thank those that returned
their cards. There is still time to let your church family know we can count on you to support our financial obligations. Please pick up and complete a 2016 pledge card from the narthex and return it in the offering plate
or to the office if you have not already done so. The board will wrap the budget planning in November and
present it to the congregation for approval on Sunday December 13.
Thank you for your continued support of BKCC.

ALTERNATIVE TO
ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS
On November 21, following the 10:15 service, we
will be holding our annual Alternative Christmas.
This year we have decided to do Alternative
Christmas a little different. Instead of having outside groups come in we are going to try somethings new -

We would very much like to use our own peo-

ple to create items to use, and then as a group,

those of us that create and donate items for sale
will chose where we want the money to go. So if
you are a baker, artist, crafter, sewer, quilter, jeweler etc we are interested in you.

Please let

Gretchen know if you are interested in making

and donating items.

Want to have something additional to donate

too? Check out the bulletin board and table for

lots of good ideas and groups to donate to this
Christmas.

Whether shopping or selling this is always a

good way to celebrate a less commercial Christmas.

THE ADVENT OF ADVENT!

Since Advent is preparing for the birth of Christ,
we at BKCC are preparing for the preparation!!!
So as the trick or treaters traipse up and down
your block, look for that clarinet, tuba, or other
instrument and get ready to pick up your music
for Advent Orchestra!!! Music is available NOW
and we will start in services Thanksgiving weekend. Though that sounds far away this time of
year days and weeks fly by!!!
Handbells will be ringing Nov. 1 for All Saints day
and we look forward to their season premiere.
An Old Chinese proverb has been striking a chord
with me lately (no pun intended)
Fall down seven times.get up eight!
So if you think you cant sing, play, ring or do anything with the music department, remember that
proverb!
Blessings
Barb Peebles!

Veterans Day

Sunday, Nov 22nd is the deadline for Thanksgiving cards and Dec 13th is the deadline for Christmas cards. A box will be in the narthex for the
cards.

can include a personal greeting if you want. Rememberdo not seal the envelope. Our cards
are very much appreciated by our veterans.

HELPING OTHERS
Have you ever wondered what to do with your
empty prescription bottles? Yes, they can be recycled but there is another way to help others. Ginger Bradfield has learned of a charity in Indiana
that sends pill bottles to Malawi in Africa where
they can be put to good use. They will also take
the small plastic containers that hold aspirin, etc.
Your
bottles

empty

pill

can

be

placed in the gift

bag on the counter
in Fellowship Hall.
Please remove the labels from the plastic containers.

Just come near

Rev. Stuart Sacks was serving in Paraguay when
Rafael, a Maka Indian, came and sat on his porch.
Sacks, whod been inside eating, went out to see
what the man wanted. Rafael said, Ham, henek
met, which means I dont want anything; I have
just come near.
The pastor, not understanding the significance of
that statement, again asked what he could do for
Rafael. But the answer was the same.
When Sacks later shared the incident, a veteran
missionary explained it was Rafaels way of showing honor. He didnt need anything in particular;
he just wanted to sit on the pastors porch. He
found satisfaction and pleasure merely by being
near him.
Sacks points out that the phrase Ham, henek met
also reveals the heart of true worship. When the
Lord asks, What brings you here, my child? we
dont need to mention or ask for anything specific.
We can reply that we simply want to come near
our God.
