Comments:All the credit of this story goes to the Chief Editor Raju Mylapra of Aswamedhamm.
If he ever happened to write this as a true story, (ALONE IN A CROWD) I would
believe it. Even otherwise I presume the theme is true. I know several families have
confronted such hostility from their own thick and thin and fled from the developed
nations to their own developing nations.
Now these games have progressed like an anticipatory bail. They play the game in
advance so that their parents will not come to the developed nations at all. I think in
a way, it is better than to come over to US and face all the trouble.

The cold-blooded murder of a father-in law

The associates of Sherin (the daughter in law) murdered Bhaskara Karanavar, 65, in his
house at Chengannur in Alappuzha district on November 7, 2009. Ali the hired gun and
sex-partner of sherin and Alis friends, smothered Karnavar to death. Sherin was such a
sleaze slut to get her father in law murdered in cold blood.
Since things have advanced this far, you can expect any thing from some dirty in-Laws. This
elderly mother could get killed, even in US. She was lucky to go back to her native land in
one piece.

In a retreat at Kollam, Vimla Hrudayam School, a priest told few stories

1) One fine morning a bank-employed husband was trying to start his kick-starter
scooter. After innumerable attempt, the scooter did not respond. It was late for his
children to go with him as well for himself for his work. His wife who was watching
his husbands struggle got fed up and was really annoyed. She came out of the hose
to the scooter and told her husband to stand back.
He was surprised and was thinking, what this fragile woman can do where a
muscular man failed with the kick-start. She rolled up her dress little bit as if she was
going for a street fight. She closed her eyes for a moment, (he thought she must have
prayed to all gods known to her) and gave a wild kick with the starting pedal. With a
big roar the scooter picked up emitting a huge smoke screen. The husband stood
aback and was breathless. Then she asked him, what are you blinking, take the
children to the school Her husband soaked in perspiration, could hardly move due
to exhaustion and surprise finally he drove away with the children.
A neighboring woman who was watching the whole scene asked her friend, How
could you do it The house wife said, I just thought of my mother in law and gave a
kick. The neighbor was speechless and thought, if she ever kicked her mother in law
like that her bones would have been powdered. See the strength of a daughter in
laws Love (hatred)

2) As usual a priest came to conduct prayers for a mans funeral. When he saw the dead
mans face he was confused that he has come to the wrong mans funeral. Then he

7
saw the so-called dead mans son and asked him who is this dead man. The young
man answered, he is my father, why do you ask me like that. The priest answered,
I never saw him before, all I remembers were of a hungry looking, unshaved,
shabbily dressed old man with broken teeth and without any spectacles. This man in
combination suit with tie, socks and shining shoes and bright spectacles has
absolutely has no resemblances to your father The young man answered, this is my
father and the other things are funeral make up.
The priest said, I never heard such a thing as funeral makeup. Then the young man
said, Now this is in vogue The priest gave a fierce look and said, First you confess all
the evil things you have done to your father and then I will do the funeral. The priest
was at the top of his voice. The priest continued, You never gave him a good dress,
always some torn here and there. He walked with a lame because of the cones he had
underneath the feet. I never saw him clean-shaven and was starving on several occasions.
Now you want to build some status and reputation, so you have done all these, but you
never had a little humanity and consideration for him when he was alive Now you are
showing all the great things to the dead, for your reputation and not out of duty, regards
and love
*******************************************
3) In a small family consisting of an old man, a dog, an employed husband and an
unemployed wife. As usual everybody figured this family was going on smoothly,
happily and peacefully. May be it was so but the housewife was not happy with the
harmless old fathers presence. Though the displeasure was in mind, she never
exposed it. Then one day the husband came bit late in the evening and found
everything was perfect and the old man was in his room. He casually asked his wife,
whether his father had his dinner. She answered, You bet, the oldman and the dog
has to be fed first, if not both of them will be barking The young man was shocked
to hear the answer but kept silent. A beautiful expression, an expression of love
4)
********************************************
The true stories, Raju Mylapra has written and the stories by the priest are not to be taken as
an insult when published through media. But, let you; think more, on the thin-skinned side
of human lives and to behave yourselves.

I admire most, Raju Mylapra for his concluding confession. In one way or other,
there may be hardly very few who has not grieved their parents. Humans never
practice a peaceful and pleasant way of resolving any problems and issues. Basically
humans are two legged sophisticated animals who seldom behave above animal like
qualities. The elders live for few more days and then they will fade away, the
youngsters should be considerate to them with all the errors and mistakes the elderly
may do. Dont forget you youngsters are also going to be old like them.
There are many Alone in a crowd at home and overseas.
(Transilation of above story in Englisgh Is given below)

By G J T

I saw a grandmother at Kennedey airport for the first time. Namely Annamma, from
Kozhenchery. "Up to Nedumbassery airport she will be with you and somebody will come
there to pick her up. Help her to fill up the forms and the rest she will manage herself." A
stranger told me this much and entrusted her as if - he is so conversant to me and he just
left. Since I was a lone traveller, I had no difficulty to help her. Long fourteen hours of New
York Dubai flight gave a chance to know each other very well. Like a thick cloud in the sky
about to burst with rain, she opened up the bundle of her suppressed feelings of
oppressions.
I have heard of a usage "Alone in a crowd". But in a crowd, she was a lonely representative
of the silent and helpless group, of few who were mocked and jeered and disgraced. She did
not have the mind to refuse the costant compulsion of her son, to come to USA and stay
with him. Moreover after his father's death, she was more or less lonesome. Even though
days and nights rolled away in a special rhythem. From her early days she had a helping hand
'Kunju Maria' is still wth her, giving a lot of relief. Frequent visits of her girl children and
grand children and also her constant attendance of the Church was also a great blessing to
her.
When the Holy-Mass is over, her visit to her husband's tomb and praying for some time, she
would feel her husbands call "Annammae" and her her answer, "I am around here". If I am
not seen in the church, the Vicar will inquire for me. When I return home after going out
somewhere, I can hear the cry of blacky, the cow. Tiger the dog, will come running to the
gate murmering, "where you have been so long, Chakky the cat, will be licking her lips and
stare at me in a questioning manner - where you have been so long. Besides all these
jubilations, marriages and religious conventions - everywhere getting respect and special
attentions, more than deserving was seen. She never had the willingness to go his son,
ignoring all these srroundings. Even then she also had a desire to live with her son, daughter
in law and grand children for sometime - besides their compulsion. When she came over to
US, she found her daughter-in-law is pregnant for the third child. After the first two girl
children they had the desire to have a son. The eldest daughter is about 13 or 14. The second
daughter is about 6 or 7 years old.
Bedroom is in the second floor. She suffered a knee-pain by climbing the steps. The first
step itself went wrong. With the herbally medicated oil brought from native land, she had
some self-massage and had a bath, which gave some relief to her knee-pain. Massage gave,
relief to bodily pain but got severe mental pain later.
See! The bathroom is destroyed. Because of the stinking smell of the herbal oil, cannot step
in to the bathroom. It was lucky nobody slipped and fell down. Water is spread all over the
bathroom. Grandma felt very sorry when she realized, what her daughter in law was saying
targetting her. She took bath as usual as she used to take bath in native land. She forgot to
pull the curtain of the bathtub. Nothing to blame the dauter in law, it was the grandma's
mistake. But this was only the begining, thereafter she was finding fault with granny for
everything.

9
Others come tired after night duty, why not this old mother wash all the dishes. If granny
ever thinks of washing dishes, then they will say she spilled water allover the kitchen,
moreover used enormous amount of water. If granny works in the kitchen for some time,
her head will not blow-off. There are no housemaids to serve her three times a day. After
easing in a recliner with her chestout, she will appear ceremonially for her meals. If she
thinks of going to a church that is also impossible, there is no space in the car. It is better
not to fall down in the cold weather and break her arms or legs, who will take care of her
then? The door to the outside world was also shut.
She wanted very much to go to the church for her husbands annual memorial day. At home
she never missed any of her husband's memorial mass. When she expressed her requisition,
her son's response was strange. He said dead is gone and it is of no use to pray for the dead.
Even otherwise who knows there is God or Devas. When the boy who was born after severe
prayers and fasting spoke like this, Granny's heart was broken. Whenever they have some
guests, granny is imprisoned in her room. When they want to exhibit granny they will call her
in a musical style!!!
One day the eldest grand daughter came back from school with a boy. When granny just
inquired about it, her grandchild gave an ultimatum - that was quite shocking to granny.
When granny told the samething to her son, he asked granny why she should pay any
attention to it, that boy must have come to do some school project; saying this much, he
ignored it. By the time granny began to unerstand she was nobody there but an unwanted
element.
Granny's son had no interest in her. She did not understand first, why he took interest to
bring her to US but later she found oly, to engage her as a baby-sitter. Because the third
child was alo a baby-girl the father and mother was very disappointed. If granny tries to
show some affection to the newborn, they will say the little one will fall sick with granny's
dirt contaminated from her face. Even if the child is worn or not worn a diaper by granny,
dauhter in law will say the child is choked with diaper tying. See, she is put in the sofa
without diaper?
Meanwhile, when granny caught a fever, things became worse. The daughter in law said she
cannot lookafter the old woman; she must be put in some nursing home. When the son
anwered, "Let me see" it was shocking to her. Then granny remembered an old saying.
Enemies of her previous birth will be reborn as children to harm her. At that time only she
realized, how much her domestic animals loves her. It is better to spend the rest of the life
with those animals. It is also better not to live at somebody's charity, even if it is ones own
children, it is a burden to them. It is far better for them and the granny to live under ones
own roof even if there is only drinking water for her. At last granny told her desire to go
back to her homeland, to her son. But the answer came from granny's daughter in law. You
could leave at any time; no one has tied you up in US. One more thing she added, Nobody
has the time to escort you, all the way to your home. This was the most kind and loving
word she ever spoke to granny.
That is how granny became a fellow passenger with me. I handed over her to the responsible
people at Nedumbassery airport and continued my journey through the coastal road of
Alappuzha. Then I felt my parents spirits caressing me in the form of breeze. I wanted to go

10
to my parents last resting place and pray first, apologizing them for hurting their feelings and
grieving them when they were alive before I go home. This decision has come quite late.
