Lesson 2 Trust

Common Core State Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.1.8 With guidance and support from adults, recall information from
experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.
Learning Objective:
The students will be able to define trust.
The students will be able to understand who they can trust.
Materials:
Smart board

Rubric
Assessment:
The students will be assessed through their responses to the pad let in the initiation section
of the lesson plan.
The students will be assessed through a rubric on their understanding of the concept of
trust.
The teacher will observe during group discussion and take anecdotal notes on students
participation and responses.
Classroom Learning Environment Focus:
The students will sit on the rug and listen to the story quietly
The students will work independently during the activities
The students will share as a group
During sharing the students will be excepted to pay attention to the others presentations and
not talk or be off task
Initiation:
The teacher will re read The Cat in the Hat.
When The Cat in the Hat enters the house the teacher will pose the question would you have let
The Cat in the Hat into your house if your parents weren't home?
When the teacher is finished reading the book the students will go back to their seats and log on
to their computers.
Lesson Development:
The teacher will put the padlet on the smart board. The student will also log on to padlet on their
computers. The students will respond to the questions on padlet, What is trust? and Who can
you trust?
After everyone has responded the teacher will define trust.

The students will each create a Voki, a personalized avatar, resembling two people they can
trust. For example a student could create an avatar resembling their mom, dad or
grandparents. (time 15 min)

When the students are finished they will print out their picture.
On the back of the picture the students will write two sentences answering the questions who
is this person and why can you trust this person? This question will be on the smart board.(15
min) Differentiation: If students finish early they can begin to write about a time that they
trusted someone.
The students will share their responses in small groups. (10 min)
After the students share their responses they will discuss a time where they trusted the
special person that they picked.

The students will hand in their responses and the teacher will grade them using the rubric.
Closure:
The teacher will ask the students to raise their hand and answer the questions:

Would you have let the Cat in the Hat in your house?
What does trust mean to you?
