How to Reduce Video Games Playing for

Children

I. Introduction
Children like to play video games. But not just children like video
game, some adults like to play video game too. For children, they like
video games just for fun. It is different from adults. They like video game
for more specific things. For example they look at the graphic, mission,
action, etc.
Video game in Indonesia is very popular. There are many types of
video game in Indonesia, for example video game online, arcade game,
console game, etc. I think video game online is very popular in Indonesia.
There are many kinds of video game online, for example Point blank,
Ayodance, GrandChese, etc. Many children like this game and spend a lot
money and time to play video game online.
I want to tell about my experience playing video game. When I was
in seventh grade, I liked to play video game. I spent a lot of time just for
playing video game. When I was in elementary school, I played video
game just on Saturday and Sunday but when I was in 7 grade I played
video game every day. Because of that, my score report was bad because
I was lazy to study.

II. A View about Video Game

A. Definition of Video Game
Video game is a machine which is specifically designed for game.
Video games generally provide a reward system-for example scorewhich is calculated based on the level of success achieved in completing
the task in the game. Many video games use a joystick as an instrument

to play. Electronic system to run a video game is called the platform, for
example personal computer (pc) and console games.
B. Types of Video Game
Some types of video games are as follows:

Arcade game
It is usually located in area/special place and has a machine which
is specifically designed for certain types of video games. This game
is highly appreciated by Indonesian children. This game we can find

in Timezone and Amazones.

PC game
This game is designed for computer. We can play this game just on
personal computer. This game is very popular. For example: Call of

Duty, Pro Evolution Soccer, Counter Strike, etc.

Console game
Console game is a video game that is played on a console game,
and not on personal computer. This game is normally connected to
the television and produce images and sound. This game is played
using a handheld device that is called the controller. We can play

this game on playstation, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii.

Mobile game
Mobile game is a video game played on a mobile phone,
smartphone or tablet computer. The first game on a mobile phone
was a tetris game on the Hagenuk MT-2000 device from 1994. We

can play this game on mobile phone.

Online game
Online game is a video game played in personal computer if the
computer is connected to the internet. Many online games have
associated online communities. For example: Point Blank,
AyoDance, Grandchese, etc.

C. Bad Effects of Video Games

Some bad effects of video games are:

If we are addicted to playing video games, we can be lazy to study.

So if we have an exam, we are lazy to read our books. Then our score
report is bad.

Difficult to make friends

If we are addicted to playing video games, it is difficult to make

friends because we tend to playing at home alone. Many gaming

addicts dont have any friends because they just playing game at
home.

Less creative and lazy to do activities outside home

Too long playing video games can result in being less creative and

lazy to do activities outside home. This is because we just stay at

home and we tend to playing at home alone (Fuscoe et al, 2006:
114).
D. How to Make Children Play less Video Games
There are at least three ways to make children play less video games.
The three ways are:

Doing activities
We should get the children busy with beneficial activities, such as
sports, scouts, etc. The other way they should often go out of the
house to play with their friends or etc. And try to play less playing

games.
Limiting the time for playing video games
We should limit the time for playing video games and play with the
children on Sunday or holiday. We should limit the time, for
example if the children usually play for 3 hours, we try to make it 1

hour long.
Not Following the Friends

If childrens friends are game addicts, they should not be

influenced by them. They should keep their motivation to reduce
the activity of playing games. They should gather with friends who
are not game addicts.

F. My Opinion about the Survey

The most preferred type of game is action games because in the
respondents opinion action games are cooler than other types of game.
Average time the respondents play is 1-2 hours. Most of them like playing
game because of the rating, graphic, and mission. 5 of 6 respondents
play game if they have spare time.

III. Conclusion
I know all will like playing video games. And in all games there must
be a good side and bad side. The good side is that we can know a lot
vocabulary and in fact for brain development, to improve concentration
and practice to solve problems accurately and quickly because in the
game there are various conflicts or problems that require us to solve
them quickly and appropriately. But games can also be harmful because
if we are addicted to the game we will lose a lot of time and would
interfere with activities that we are doing. For parents, they can tell their
children to go out with their friends or tell them to play just on Sundays
or holidays.
