I. Answer all the following questions. Each question carries 1 mark.

1. Simplify: log105 + 2log104
2. If P = {1, 2, 3, 4} and Q = {4, 5, 6, 7}, find P Q.
3. Find a quadratic polynomial, the sum and product of whose zeroes are 7 and 2.
4. The number of girls x in a class is 5 less than twice the number of boys y of the
same class. Form a linear equation in two variables for this information.
5. Find the roots of the quadratic equation 3x2 2 6x +2= 0.
6. The vertices of ABC are (2, 1), (5, 4) and (2, 3) respectively. Find the area of the
triangle.
7. Is 523 a prime number? Justify your answer.
II. Answer all the following questions. Each question carries 2 marks.

8. Determine the area of a scalene triangle with sides 32 cm, 34 cm and 34 cm.
9. The hypotenuse of a right angled triangle is 6 cm more than twice the shortest side.
If the third side is 2 cm less than the hypotenuse, find the sides of the triangle.

10. The sum of two numbers is 15. If the sum of their reciprocals is

11. The H.C.F. of two numbers is 25, their L.C.M. is 1500. One of the numbers is 125.
What is the other number?
12. Show that the points A(8, 2), B(5, 3), C(0, 0) are the vertices of an isosceles
triangle.
13. The 5th term of an AP is 34 and the 15th term is 9. Find the common difference and
the rth term.

17. (a) Form a pair of linear equations for the following problem, and find the solution
graphically.

more than the number of boys, find the number of boys and girls who took part in
the quiz.
